On October 17, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ' regular press briefing, a reporter asked about Vietnam's stance on the recent tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Regarding this matter, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: "Vietnam is concerned about the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula. We hope that all parties will exercise restraint, avoid escalating tensions, and persevere in dialogue, taking into account each other's interests as well as the common interests of the region and the international community, contributing to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, in the region, and in the world."
The situation on the Korean Peninsula is becoming increasingly tense. On October 17, North Korea announced it had amended its constitution, for the first time referring to South Korea as a "hostile state."
For its part, South Korea declared that it would continue to pursue the goal of reunification, but would respond with force to any acts of aggression by North Korea.
In related developments, North Korean road and rail lines leading to South Korea through eastern and western areas of North Korea's southern border have been "blown up." Once considered symbols of inter-Korean cooperation, the Gyeongui and Donghae road and rail lines were used for economic cooperation projects and humanitarian programs between the two countries.
