According to VNA correspondents in Eastern Europe, political parties discussed at the meeting that the world situation is very complicated, deeply affecting the politics of many countries and having a profound impact on international cooperation. Europe is facing many challenges due to geopolitical fluctuations taking place in the region. With the desire to enhance dialogue and strengthen trust, delegates expressed their appreciation for the AEPF as a bridge to promote Asia-Europe cooperation, enhance trust and establish a foundation for peace , stability, cooperation and democracy in Asia and Europe; at the same time, they acknowledged the efforts of the Standing Committee of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and the member parties of the European Parliament (EP) in continuing to strengthen cooperation, sharing, contributing to upholding the basic principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter in the spirit of mutual respect, respect for international law, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Within the framework of the 6th AEPF, the ruling FIDESZ party in Hungary - the host of this meeting - initiated the idea of organizing the Special Session "Promoting Dialogue and Cooperation - Meeting of Research Institutions" to establish a cooperation mechanism between research institutes and policy consulting organizations of parties and AEPF member countries.
Speaking at the Plenary Session, Ambassador Bui Le Thai highly appreciated the meeting's theme, sharing his views on the impacts of the world situation on the prospects for sustainable development of countries, as well as the challenges facing multilateral cooperation. The Ambassador emphasized that peace, stability and cooperation are not only the common aspiration of mankind but also the prerequisite for sustainable development and the protection of genuine democracy. The Ambassador called on countries to continue upholding the principle of resolving differences by peaceful means, through dialogue, mutual understanding and respect for international law. The Ambassador also emphasized that Vietnam highly appreciates the role of ICAPP in promoting dialogue between political parties in Asia, as well as in enhancing and creating an inter-regional environment for dialogue and policy exchange.
On this occasion, the Ambassador informed in depth about the policy of building socialist democracy and achievements in ensuring human rights that Vietnam has achieved in nearly 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi process; emphasizing that the result of Vietnam being elected to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term is a vivid demonstration of the international community's recognition and trust in the achievements in development, protection of the people's legitimate rights and interests, as well as Vietnam's positive contributions to the process of ensuring democracy and social progress in the world.
During the meeting, the Head of the Vietnamese delegation had bilateral meetings with many international partners to discuss measures to promote cooperation in the coming time.
The Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee expressed his hope that the cooperation between the two ruling parties and the two governments will continue to develop more deeply and extensively in the coming time. The ICAPP leaders hope that Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to the process of promoting cooperation between ICAPP and AEPF member parties, contributing to the strong development of inter-regional cooperation, effectively consolidating the environment of peace, stability and prosperity in the world in general and for the people of the countries in the Eurasian continent in particular.
AEPF was established in 2017 as a cooperation mechanism between ICAPP and party groups in the EP with the aim of becoming an important second channel alongside the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) to promote connectivity between Asia and Europe. AEPF is held annually on a rotational basis between the two continents. To date, the forum has held 6 meetings, affirming its role as an effective bridge in enhancing exchanges and promoting cooperation between political parties in Asia and Europe.
