Many countries and territories have also advised their citizens to be cautious when traveling to Thailand and Cambodia at this time. Although these tourist destinations are not near border clashes, tourists should be aware amid the tension.
Relations between Thailand and Cambodia have deteriorated over the past week, with the two countries exchanging gunfire in several disputed border areas on July 24. The fighting became more serious when the Cambodian and Thai armies deployed heavy weapons.
Many countries, including Vietnam, have expressed concern about the escalating border conflict and called on both sides to exercise restraint to resolve the issue.
The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting at its headquarters in New York at 7 p.m. on July 25 (local time) to discuss the escalating tensions between Thailand and Cambodia.
