Vietnam hopes PCA will help improve capacity in international law

On September 25 in The Hague, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Ngo Huong Nam presented his credentials at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) headquarters and had a brief exchange with PCA Secretary General Marcin Czepelak.

 

At the meeting, Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam congratulated the success of the PCA Secretary General's visit to Vietnam last August; and congratulated the UN General Assembly on unanimously passing a resolution commemorating the 125th anniversary of the PCA's establishment.

 

The Ambassador said that as a member country of the PCA, Vietnam will actively participate in activities to celebrate the anniversary, contributing to promoting the role of the PCA in maintaining international peace and security as well as promoting the peaceful settlement of international disputes and the progressive development of international law.

 

The Ambassador highly appreciated the achievements of the PCA Office in Hanoi over the past year, affirming that the Vietnamese Government will create all conditions for the PCA to soon organize its first trial in Hanoi, aiming to become the place chosen by parties to resolve disputes in the region and the world .

 

Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam affirmed that he will do his best to continue to maintain and further promote the existing good relationship between Vietnam and PCA.

 

The Ambassador also hoped that the PCA would continue to support Vietnam in improving its capacity in the field of international law to serve socio -economic development and comprehensive, deep international integration; introduce, connect and bring international legal experts to Vietnam to exchange knowledge and experience. In addition, he requested that the PCA facilitate the acceptance of Vietnamese candidates to work at the PCA's headquarters in The Hague.

 

Secretary General Marcin Czepelak welcomed Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam’s appointment as Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the PCA; expressed his belief that the Ambassador will fulfill his assigned tasks well, making positive contributions to the relations between the two countries in general and the PCA in particular. Mr. Marcin Czepelak said that he will create favorable conditions for Vietnam to participate in training courses and work at the PCA.

 

The PCA is an intergovernmental international organization headquartered in The Hague with 121 member states, including Vietnam. The Court was established in 1899 and is a forum for resolving international disputes between states and between states and foreign legal entities in the field of international economics and investment by arbitration or other peaceful means.

 

PCA has five representative offices in countries and regions around the world, including Buenos Aires (Argentina), Mauritius, Singapore, Vienna (Austria) and Hanoi. The representative office in Hanoi was established at the end of 2022, the fifth office outside the PCA headquarters, and the second office in the Southeast Asia region.
