On the morning of November 27, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep received Mr. Remy Ejel, General Director of Asia, Oceania and Africa (AOA) - Nestlé Group.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep expressed his pleasure in welcoming the senior leaders of Nestlé Group. The meeting took place right when Mr. Remy Ejel began his working trip to Vietnam, demonstrating the importance of the cooperative relationship between Nestlé and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
The Deputy Minister said that after three decades of operation in Vietnam, Nestlé has left many deep impressions, being one of the most successful foreign investment corporations. Currently, the enterprise has created job opportunities for about 300,000 indirect workers and 200,000 direct workers, contributing to increasing income and improving the lives of Vietnamese farmers in the coffee sector. "The value that Nestlé left behind is not only the production foundation but also sustainability, sharing the same orientation of developing green agriculture with Vietnam," the Deputy Minister emphasized.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep expressed his appreciation for the group's ideology and mission, and acknowledged Nestlé's important role in activities within the framework of PSAV (Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture Development in Vietnam). "Nestlé is always one of the first enterprises to actively support the Ministry's policies and proposals," he said.
The Deputy Minister said that after a long period of cooperation, the two sides have every reason to expect stronger developments in the coming time, especially in programs related to sustainable development, reducing plastic emissions and promoting the circular economy .
The Deputy Minister expressed his hope that Nestlé will pay more attention to direct investment in farmers as Vietnam is the country with the second largest coffee output and export turnover in the world, with a wide open market.

CEO Remy Ejel affirmed that Nestlé is honored to accompany countries including Vietnam on the journey to achieve Net Zero. He shared that reducing emissions is a big challenge for many countries, including Switzerland. However, with the climate and regenerative agriculture programs that the group is implementing, Nestlé believes that it can gradually move with Vietnam towards the set commitments.
Nestlé leaders recognized Vietnam as one of the countries that most effectively applied the sustainable production model and was highly appreciated by Nestlé globally. He also particularly praised the role of coffee farmers in creating a supply source to serve the domestic market and also helping Nestlé export to 40 countries. Nescafé products from Vietnam have been exported to 40 countries including the African region.
For 30 years, Nestlé Vietnam has also been actively transferring training, education and technology to Vietnam. One of Nestlé’s upcoming global programs with Vietnam’s participation is training, agricultural extension and guidance on good agricultural practices. The group has many advanced research and development centers serving the global supply chain.

Discussing the future cooperation direction, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep emphasized that human resource training will be the focus of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two sides. The Ministry's leaders hope that Nestlé will continue to invest in waste treatment solutions, increase the value of coffee by-products, thereby helping farmers earn more income, and enhance training for young farmers in sustainable coffee farming practices.
