On October 13, within the framework of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang, carried out many foreign affairs activities, affirming the message that Vietnam puts people at the center of all development processes and proposed that the international community share this approach in the context of many world challenges.

In his opening remarks at the United Nations member states’ discussion at the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs (Committee 2) on the topic “Sustainable Development: Disaster Risk Reduction,” Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang shared the international community’s common concern about the very slow progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Faced with the increasingly serious impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, along with economic and social challenges and financial shortages, the Deputy Minister affirmed the need to strengthen commitments to multilateralism and the 2030 Agenda through strong actions.

The head of the Vietnamese delegation stressed that it was time to renew awareness and development models, in which putting people at the center of the development process was the top priority. Ensuring social security, inclusive development and environmental protection should be given importance, while science and technology, innovation and digital transformation should be the main drivers of growth.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang also called on international partners to respect their commitments, including mobilizing private capital for sustainable infrastructure development (as affirmed in the Sevilla Agreement); strengthening international cooperation in technology and knowledge sharing, promoting responsible technology governance, supporting developing countries to build capacity and apply digital technology in priority areas such as agriculture, health, etc.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang also expressed her gratitude to international partners for actively helping Vietnam overcome the serious consequences caused by two consecutive storms, Bualoi (Vietnam calls storm No. 10) and Matmo (Vietnam calls storm No. 11).

Also on October 13, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang and Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, chaired the opening of a photo exhibition about the country and people of Vietnam, along with activities introducing culinary culture and traditional Mid-Autumn Festival space.

The event was organized by the Vietnamese Mission to the United Nations on the occasion of the 80th General Assembly beginning its activities in Committees and conducting elections for members of important bodies in the United Nations system, with the participation of more than 300 Ambassadors, Chargé d'Affaires and representatives of Delegations of countries to the United Nations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang affirmed that after 80 years of fighting for national liberation, unification and construction, especially nearly 40 years of implementing Doi Moi, Vietnam is entering a new era of development. Vietnam has set the goal of turning the country into a developed, high-income country by 2045, with the main driving force being science, technology, digital transformation, international integration and legal reform, promoting the role of the private economic sector and ensuring healthcare and education for the people.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang shared that with its long history, Vietnam clearly understands the importance of the requirement of harmonious combination between nature and humans, development and conservation, tradition and modernity, between national strength and the trend of the times.

On that basis, in the coming time, Vietnam will continue to contribute to upholding international law, promoting a culture of peace and enhancing the role of global institutions in an increasingly transparent and responsible direction.

This contribution is demonstrated through initiatives such as hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime (October 2025 in Hanoi) and re-election as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.

On the occasion of attending the meetings and elections of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang had meetings and worked with Ambassadors, Heads of Delegations of several countries to the United Nations, Chair of Committee 2, Chair of the African Group, etc., to discuss bilateral cooperation possibilities and coordination at multilateral forums./.
