Speaking at the press conference, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes said that the discussion and voting session on the resolution will take place on October 28-29 at the UN headquarters in New York. This is the 34th time since 1992 that Cuba has submitted this resolution to the UN General Assembly, and over the years, the draft has received widespread support from the international community. In 2024, a similar resolution was passed with 187 votes in favor and 2 votes against.

The Ambassador believes that this year's vote will continue to receive support from the majority of member states, and at the same time, he stated that the resolution calls on countries to comply with the UN Charter and the principles of international free trade.

According to Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, the economic and financial restrictions that have lasted for decades have significantly affected Cuba's socio-economic life, including areas such as health, agriculture, energy, tourism and biotechnology. In the period from February 2024 to February 2025 alone, Cuba estimates losses of more than $7 billion.

However, the Ambassador affirmed that despite these difficulties, Cuba still strives to maintain social stability, develop the fields of biotechnology and medicine , and continue to expand international cooperation.

At the press conference, Ambassador Fuentes also expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's long-term and consistent support for Cuba at international forums, including Vietnam's regular support for resolutions calling for an end to the embargo, as well as humanitarian assistance and bilateral cooperation in many fields.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Government and people of Vietnam, as well as peace- and justice-loving countries, who have always accompanied and supported Cuba,” the Cuban diplomat emphasized.

The program to support the Cuban people with the theme "65 years of Vietnam-Cuba friendship" is deployed nationwide for 65 days (August 13 - October 16, 2025), aiming to mobilize a minimum of 65 billion VND to support the Cuban people to overcome difficulties and foster the special friendship between the two nations. However, after only 30 hours of the national launching ceremony held on August 13 in Hanoi, the program received 65 billion VND, reaching the initial minimum target. After 48 hours of launching, it doubled the initial target (130 billion VND) and after more than 3 weeks of launching, the program received a total value of over 400 billion VND. By the end of October 16, 2025, the total amount of support reached 615 billion VND, 9.5 times the initial target.
