Speaking at a press conference, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes said that the discussion and voting on the resolution will take place over two days, October 28-29, at the UN headquarters in New York. This is the 34th time since 1992 that Cuba has submitted this resolution to the UN General Assembly, and over the years, the draft has received widespread support from the international community. In 2024, a similar resolution was adopted with 187 votes in favor and 2 against.

The ambassador expressed confidence that this year's vote would continue to receive the support of the majority of member states, and clarified that the resolution calls on countries to abide by the UN Charter and the principles of free international trade.

According to Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, decades of economic and financial restrictions have significantly impacted Cuba's socio-economic life, including sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, energy, tourism, and biotechnology. Cuba estimates losses exceeding $7 billion between February 2024 and February 2025 alone.

However, the Ambassador affirmed that, despite these difficulties, Cuba is still striving to maintain social stability, develop the fields of biotechnology and healthcare , and continue to expand international cooperation.

At the press conference, Ambassador Fuentes also expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's long-standing and consistent support for Cuba in international forums, including Vietnam's regular support for resolutions calling for an end to the embargo, as well as its humanitarian assistance and bilateral cooperation in many fields.

"We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Vietnam, as well as to all peace- loving and justice-seeking nations, for their unwavering support of Cuba," the Cuban diplomat emphasized.

The nationwide fundraising campaign for the Cuban people, themed "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship," was launched over 65 days (August 13 - October 16, 2025), aiming to raise at least 65 billion VND to support the Cuban people in overcoming difficulties and fostering the special friendship between the two nations. However, just 30 hours after the national launch ceremony on August 13 in Hanoi, the program had already received 65 billion VND, reaching its initial target. Within 48 hours of the launch, it had doubled its initial goal (130 billion VND), and after more than three weeks, the program had received over 400 billion VND. By the end of October 16, 2025, the total amount of donations reached 615 billion VND, 9.5 times the initial target.
