According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam, with favorable natural conditions, has produced more than 120 types of vegetables of tropical, subtropical and temperate origin.

Thanks to the application of science and technology, vegetable production is maintained year-round, serving domestic consumption and export needs. To date, the total vegetable growing area in the country has reached more than 1 million hectares, with an output of over 19 million tons/year. In the commercial sector, vegetables and fruits are one of the three largest agricultural export product groups of Vietnam. In the first 4 months of 2025, the export value of vegetables and fruits reached 1.62 billion USD; exported to more than 80 countries and territories.

However, Vietnamese fruits and vegetables are still facing increasingly strict technical barriers from import markets, especially regarding pesticide residues, plant quarantine and requirements on labor and environmental standards...

For the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry to develop sustainably, localities need to produce according to a linked value chain with the responsible participation of enterprises, cooperatives, farmers and management agencies; strengthen quality control from planting areas to packaging and processing, implement agricultural chemical residue monitoring programs in key areas such as Tien Giang, Long An, Dak Lak, Lam Dong; support farmers to convert to organic and biological farming to meet market standards; enhance deep processing of fruit and vegetable products to increase export value, avoid technical barriers; implement market orientation solutions, focusing on large-scale markets such as China, the US and potential markets...
