Representatives of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; the French National Center for Space Studies (CNES) and Airbus Defence & Space ADS Group exchanged a cooperation memorandum in the presence of President Luong Cuong and French President Emmanuel Macron (Photo: VAST).

The signing ceremony took place under the solemn witness ofPresident Luong Cuong and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, within the framework of the French leader's State visit to Vietnam.

This is a clear demonstration of the strong commitment of the two countries' leaders in promoting strategic cooperation, especially in the fields of high technology, space and aerospace.

The newly signed letter of intent marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation, towards developing a modern generation of Earth observation satellites, serving Vietnam's sustainable development goals.

The agreement includes the transfer of advanced technology, intensive training of human resources and sharing of practical remote sensing applications.

This is a successful follow-up to the VNREDSat-1 satellite project - Vietnam's first "eye" in orbit, designed and successfully launched by Airbus Group in 2013.

Satellites operated by VAST have now provided more than 170,000 high-quality remote sensing images, effectively supporting natural disaster monitoring, climate change response, territorial planning and resource management activities.

Building on that foundation, the parties agreed to develop a new generation of satellites, combining experience from VNREDSat-1 with current advanced technologies.

At the same time, the cooperation is also linked to prestigious multilateral initiatives such as the CO3D program and the Space Observatory Earth Observatory (SCO) project chaired by CNES, bringing together many major partners such as NASA (USA), JAXA (Japan)...

Also on the same day, at VAST headquarters, Professor Academician Le Truong Giang - Vice President of the Institute had a working session with Mr. Stéphane Vesval - Vice President of ADS, focusing on discussing the current technical status of VNREDSat-1 and agreeing on the steps to implement the newly signed Letter of Intent.

Another highlight for the extensive cooperation between the two sides is the cooperation of Airbus with the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) - a unit under VAST.

Airbus is currently supporting USTH to develop an aeronautical engineering training program according to European standards, contributing to "incubating" a high-tech human resource team for Vietnam.

These strong steps not only realize the Vietnam - France Action Plan for the period 2024-2028, but also affirm the long-term vision of the two countries in building a comprehensive strategic partnership, aiming for new heights in the era of innovation and sustainable development.
