Commit to see, understand and write with all your heart
If he had not pursued journalism, perhaps Hoang Quynh, a reporter from the News Department, Quang Ninh Province Media Center, would not have had the opportunity to set foot in many areas of the coal mine or explore the landmarks spread across the "S" shaped strip of land. Being involved in journalism means being involved in movement. For reporter Hoang Quynh, each trip is not simply a work journey, but also a vivid piece of life, an opportunity to listen, understand and share. The days of working at the base, from remote areas to bustling industrial areas, are not only a physical challenge or time pressure, but also a journey of continuous learning. Working in many diverse environments helps reporter Hoang Quynh perfect her skills, hone her mettle and maintain the sharpness of a news reporter.
It was these endless experiences that forged a deep love for journalism and urged him to go to further places, especially the sacred journey to Truong Sa - the place that left the deepest mark in the journalistic career of reporter Hoang Quynh. Reporter Hoang Quynh confided: "I still remember a line in the work Sunken Island by poet Tran Dang Khoa: Coming to Truong Sa, I understood why the sea water is salty... That saltiness comes not only from salt but also from sweat, tears, and even blood of the soldiers who are guarding the island day and night".
At Truong Sa, in the middle of the vast ocean, reporter Hoang Quynh fully felt the sacredness of the military-civilian relationship, the love for the homeland. “It is pure, profound and powerful enough to arouse the most intense emotions in the heart. Perhaps, I have understood why our people have overcome the most difficult moments in history. Because in every Vietnamese person, there is always such a passionate love for the country” - reporter Hoang Quynh said.
That trip was not only a professional experience, but also a haunting memory that will never fade away. Because sovereignty over seas and islands does not only exist on maps or in legal documents, but is affirmed by the sweat, blood and tears of many generations of soldiers and fishermen. For Hoang Quynh, witnessing those “living milestones” with her own eyes was a great fortune and also a source of motivation to continue doing her job with all her heart.
With more than 13 years of working in journalism, Mr. Bui Duc Hieu, a reporter for Vietnam News Agency based in Quang Ninh, always considers each year of working as a journey to live fully with honesty, write with all the emotions of his heart, and quietly contribute his small part to the never-ending flow of information.
Originally from the mining region of Quang Ninh, Bui Duc Hieu spent more than 6 years working in Bac Kan province, a land with many difficulties but a "great school" that helped him mature both professionally and as a journalist. Since 2019, he has been transferred to his hometown of Quang Ninh, continuing to pursue his passion for journalism in the cultural and social fields.
He could no longer remember how many articles he had written, how many people he had met, how many stories he had heard that made his heart restless. But what remained in him were not only the lines on the newspaper, but also a whole world of real life, full of human love - where he had walked through, recorded with all his heart and the deep emotions of a journalist.
Mr. Bui Duc Hieu said that one of the most memorable times he worked was when reporting on storm No. 3, he and the head of the permanent agency Vu Van Duc went to the scene to film. The wind changed direction, becoming more violent. A large sheet of corrugated iron flew over, brushing past his face. “I only had time to hide on the sidewalk. Everything happened so quickly. If I hadn’t been lucky, I probably wouldn’t be standing here to tell the story. The head of the agency at that time immediately asked him to retreat to a safe place. That was a lifelong lesson of journalism, not just about the stage lights or sparkling pages, but sometimes at the cost of your own safety,” Mr. Hieu recalled.
Not only facing dangers from nature, Mr. Hieu has also experienced many stressful situations, even being threatened and chased because of pursuing sensitive topics. At times, he compared himself to a "fish on a chopping board" between the fragile boundary between the truth and the reactions of those who are exposed. He said: "Being a journalist requires not only heart, but also courage". According to him, a journalist needs to have "talent" - that is, sensitivity to good and beautiful things, the ability to recognize what should be written and what needs to be cautious. That "talent" is partly innate, but mostly cultivated through the process of training, accumulation and continuous learning in each step of the career path.
For him, journalism is not only a job, but also a way to live responsibly, to quietly contribute a small brick to the common roof of his homeland. And that journey, he is still continuing, with all his passion and tireless dedication.
Keeping the "flame" of truth burning amid the "flow" of the times
From the early days of the "Than Newspaper" fire, Quang Ninh press has joined the vibrant flow of Vietnam's revolutionary press, becoming a pioneer on the ideological and cultural front, fostering the revolutionary spirit of miners, contributing to building Quang Ninh province to be increasingly rich and civilized. In each step of development of the heroic mining region, Quang Ninh press has always accompanied and strongly developed in terms of staff, types, quantity, quality and scope of influence - associated with familiar and proud names: From Than Newspaper, Hai Ninh Newspaper, Vung Than Newspaper, Vung Mo Newspaper... to Quang Ninh Newspaper, Quang Ninh Radio - Television Station and now the Provincial Media Center - a modern and dynamic multimedia press agency. Many press works of the province have profound discoveries, contributing to summarizing practices, drawing theories, spreading innovative and breakthrough models of Quang Ninh in all areas of social life. Many of them have been honored at the National Press Awards, National Press Awards on Party building, National Assembly and People's Council awards, anti-corruption, waste prevention, foreign information...
Carrying forward the tradition from the flame of "Than Newspaper", the team of Quang Ninh journalists today - with a large and enthusiastic force - is adapting and innovating every day to meet the requirements of the times. They are the ones who directly realize the mission of journalism in the digital age, where technology, speed and reliability become mandatory standards.
Now, in the era of digital transformation and technology explosion, the mission of journalists has become greater and more challenging than ever. That mission places on the shoulders of journalists not only to report news but also to lead, orient and inspire development. In the team of nearly 500 journalists working in Quang Ninh, there are about 100 reporters and resident journalists from 56 major press agencies inside and outside the province. This is the core force contributing to bringing the voice of the Mining Region closer to the public at home and abroad.
Reporter Truong Giang (VOV Dong Bac) shared: “If we only do journalism in the old way, without creativity or flexibility, we will certainly be eliminated. Reporters in the 4.0 era cannot just hold a pen, but need to be proficient in technology, know how to take advantage of digital platforms, including AI, to convey information. Not stopping at written newspapers or television, today, a journalistic work can be present in many formats from short videos, infographics, podcasts to livestreams, long-form... Reporters not only write news, but also produce multimedia content, optimizing messages for each platform and each audience. However, in the midst of that technology whirlwind, the most important thing for a journalist is to maintain political courage, professional ethics and the spirit of serving the public.”
According to Truong Giang, for each journalistic work to truly reach the public, it must first ensure that it is close, concise, easy to understand, and at the same time has clear creativity and social value. It is necessary to choose stories that are deeply humane, have the power to move and inspire, and contribute to evoking pride in the homeland and country, such as the miraculous development of Quang Ninh. In particular, the content must be suitable for each audience group, from young people to the elderly, and have the ability to spread strongly on multiple media platforms.
Technology provides journalists with powerful tools to access and transmit information quickly, but at the same time, it also places higher demands on accuracy, verification and professional responsibility. The explosion of social networks allows anyone to become a "messenger" in the digital space, causing real and fake information to be mixed up, and rumors to spread faster than the truth. In this context, the role of professional journalism becomes even more important as an "information shield", a "trust guide" to help the public distinguish between right and wrong, real and fake, and to evoke positive values in society.
Journalist Luong Quang Tho, representative of Nhan Dan Newspaper in Quang Ninh, shared: “The biggest challenge is not technology, but preserving the human quality in each journalistic work. In an era where speed can obscure depth, journalism needs more courage, more firmly maintaining a sharp pen - pure heart - bright mind to be worthy of being the bridge between the Party and the people, the trust in today's information-filled life.”
Journalists today, no matter what circumstances they work in, in the midst of natural disasters, at the forefront of the frontier, or in the "big sea" of the digital age, still silently maintain the flame of their profession: the flame of truth, responsibility and the aspiration to contribute to the people and the Fatherland. Amidst the "flow" of information, Quang Ninh press today continues to affirm its pioneering role on the ideological and cultural front, as a solid "bridge" between the Party and the people, as the one who preserves and continues to write the heroic history of the heroic mining region.
