VietinBank launches Technical Support Activities under the Component "Enhancing Green Banking Capacity"

Recently, VietinBank officially launched the Technical Support Activity under the Component "Enhancing green banking capacity" within the framework of the Technical Support Project "Promoting financial inclusion and climate finance".

In the context of the world facing major challenges due to climate change, green finance is not only an inevitable trend but also a shared responsibility of financial and banking institutions. Aiming for the goal of zero net emissions by 2050 as committed by the Vietnamese Government at COP26, VietinBank - as a key bank of the economy - officially launched the Technical Support Activity under the Component "Enhancing Green Banking Capacity".

This is one of the important activities within the framework of the Technical Support Project “Promoting financial inclusion and climate finance” entrusted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to manage the component on green banking and green credit development. PwC Vietnam, a prestigious partner in the field of sustainable finance, will accompany VietinBank in consulting on the implementation of the activity.

Launching the Green Banking Capacity Building Project is an important step towards sustainable development of VietinBank.

This activity will support VietinBank to: Assess the current situation and identify gaps with global green finance practices; Develop a technical support plan to serve green banking goals for the upcoming period; Strengthen internal capacity in green finance through direct technical support and in-depth training. Following the Sustainable Finance Framework (SFF) developed in accordance with the International Green Principles, this activity marks an important step in the journey to realize VietinBank's goal of "becoming a sustainable development bank according to international standards", contributing to enhancing the Bank's competitiveness in the context of global economic transition.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Le Thanh Tung, Member of the Board of Directors of VietinBank emphasized: “This Technical Support activity is not only important in VietinBank’s sustainable development journey, but also an opportunity for us to access international knowledge, tools and experiences in green finance. Through this, VietinBank will clearly identify gaps with international practices, and propose specific and feasible action plans.”

Over the years, VietinBank has proactively carried out many activities to support sustainable development such as financing renewable energy projects, developing preferential financial products to finance projects/plans that benefit the environment and society, implementing green deposit products and researching the issuance of green bonds.

VietinBank commits to mobilizing maximum resources and closely coordinating with relevant parties to ensure the project is implemented effectively, on schedule and brings real value not only to the Bank, but also to customers and the economy in general.

With the support of ADB and in-depth consulting from PwC Vietnam, VietinBank hopes to gradually realize its vision of becoming a sustainable development bank according to international standards - actively contributing to the country's green transformation journey.
