Pioneering new markets

After the COVID-19 pandemic, realizing the strong increase in trade demand between Vietnam and other countries, Vietjet researched market demand, sought opportunities and partners, and quickly completed the necessary legal procedures to implement the policy of opening direct flights between Vietnam and India, between Vietnam and Kazakhstan of the State leaders as well as the expectations of the community.

India is a potential market with a population of over 1.4 billion, high travel demand, especially suitable for low-cost airlines, suitable for people's economic conditions.

Vietjet's direct flights connecting key cities Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Phu Quoc to Mumbai, New Dehli, Ahmedabad and other major cities in India strongly promote the demand for tourism , business and visiting relatives not only between the two countries but also between India and Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and Australia.

Besides India, at the end of October 2022, Vietjet will operate the first flight bringing Kazakhstani tourists from Almaty city to the beautiful coastal city of Nha Trang with a frequency of 2 flights/week.

Two months later, in December 2022, Vietjet continued to open a second route from Nha Trang to the capital Astana of Kazakhstan, bringing the total number of flights between the two countries to 4 flights/week. This is also an important milestone marking Vietjet's wingspan in the Central Asian market, contributing to diversifying international tourist sources towards sustainable tourism development.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy General Director of Vietjet, opening new international routes demonstrates Vietjet's agility and flexibility when traditional markets still have limitations in terms of operating frequency and disease control measures.

Mr. Thanh Son said that Vietjet received many compliments and high appreciation from leaders at all levels when opening direct flights to new markets such as India and Kazakhstan - markets where no airline has operated direct flights for decades.

Most recently, in early February 2022, Vietjet opened ticket sales for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Melbourne and Sydney (Australia), taking off from April 8, 2023 with a frequency of 3 flights/week for each destination. The airline is also researching to soon open more flights to Brisbane. Vietjet assesses Australia as a country with a large Vietnamese community living, studying and working, bringing high exploitation potential.

Driving force for economic recovery after the pandemic

After Vietjet opened direct flights connecting Vietnam with India and Kazakhstan, tourist cities in Vietnam have seen more Indian tourists, and Vietnamese pilgrimage groups to the land of Buddha have also increased sharply. Meanwhile, people from Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries can also fly directly to sunny Nha Trang. Conversely, people from tropical regions can go to Kazakhstan to see snow falling in the middle of winter.

Chief flight attendant Nguyen Thi Duyen, one of the flight attendants on the inaugural flight connecting Astana (Kazakhstan) with Nha Trang, said that what made Duyen proud was when the Vietjet crew entered the Astana airport terminal, because their uniforms were so outstanding and novel, they attracted the attention of everyone present there.

A lot of people raised their phones to take pictures. I felt the excitement and curiosity about us, representing a new airline appearing in Astana ,” Duyen recalled.

Meanwhile, flight attendant Bui Sy Khiem had many memories on flights connecting Vietnam with India. “ Indian tourists flying to Vietnam were so excited that they didn’t sleep the whole flight like passengers on other flights. Many times they invited me to try curry rice, which I found very wonderful and interesting, ” Khiem said.

Shaan Acharya, an Indian passenger traveling to Vietnam with her boyfriend, said that before Vietjet opened flights to India, she had no idea about tourism in Vietnam.

In India, when we talk about Southeast Asia, we think of Bangkok, Singapore, Bali. Vietnam rarely appears on the list of tourist destinations for Indians. When I came to Vietnam, I found Vietnam very interesting, the cuisine, culture, landscape,... all have their own charm. Now that there are many low-cost flights from Vietjet, I think more and more Indians will come to Vietnam, ” Shaan said.

Proud that Vietjet contributes to the process of promoting trade, developing tourism and being a bridge for cultural exchange between countries, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son said: “ For Vietjet, this is both an opportunity and a challenge to affirm the right recovery and growth strategy, closely following the plan set out by the airline's Board of Directors.

Vietjet expects international routes to be the driving force for revenue and profit growth in 2023, contributing positively to the development of diplomatic, economic, trade and tourism relations between Vietnam and other countries to help restore the economy after the pandemic .

In addition to pioneering the opening of routes to the above new markets, immediately after the epidemic was controlled, Vietjet also opened new international routes such as Hanoi - Nagoya, Hanoi - Fukoka (Japan) and Hanoi - Denpasar (Bali - Indonesia) to meet the trade needs between Vietnam and other countries.
