The Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) announced that the play “Giselle” – the greatest masterpiece in the world of romantic ballet about love and betrayal – will reunite with the public on the evenings of October 12 and 13, 2024.
“Giselle” is one of the outstanding works of classical ballet with highly technical excerpts in group dance as well as solo dances.

This two-act ballet is captivating for its haunting, sad plot and its juxtaposition of the vivid real world and the mystical spiritual world. First performed in 1841, Giselle was an immediate hit with critics and audiences and has since spread around the world.
“Giselle” is set in a small village and the story begins when Giselle, a young girl, falls in love with a nobleman named Albrecht without knowing that he is engaged to a woman of high society. When she learns the harsh reality, she is so heartbroken that she has a heart attack and dies right at the ball.
In contrast to Act 1, Act 2 is marked by the mesmerizing movements of the “white spirits” around Giselle’s grave. The rage is heightened to a frenzied emotional climax in the dramatic choreography of the Wilis – an ancient legend about the spirits of women who punish unfaithful men by forcing them to dance to death.
However, Giselle's presence at this moment is like a "messenger of love". Her love rises up strongly to resolve the situation, saving Albrecht from the death penalty.
The play not only attracts audiences with talented acting and professional performance techniques but also brings to the audience humane messages.
A pure and emotional love leads to a deadly tragedy, followed by the revenge of magical ghosts. But even the most powerful dark magic must stop before a pure love.
According to the production crew, the entire re-staging process was supervised and performed by Japanese artist Yuki Ohmori and French artist Chloe Glemot.
Artist Yuki Ohmori won first prize in the Pas de Deux-1 category at the All Japan Dance Competition in 1993, the same year she won a scholarship to the Australian Ballet School. In 1996, she joined the New National Theatre Ballet in Tokyo.
Chloe Glemot is a French dancer. She began dancing at the age of four and joined the Paris Opera Ballet School for advanced training in 2003. She pursued her professional career as a dancer with the American Ballet Theatre in New York, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal and the English National Ballet in London.
In 2006, Chloe completed her training as a dance instructor at the National Dance Center in Paris and decided to pursue her career in Vietnam in 2013.
The play features professional artists from the HSBO Ballet: Do Hoang Khang Ninh transforms into the beautiful Giselle, La Man Nhi plays Myrtha - queen of the Wilis spirits, Le Duc Anh plays the noble Albrecht and Dam Duc Nhuan plays the ill-fated Hilarion...
