From the surprising victory of CAND table tennis
The 43rd National Table Tennis Championship of Nhan Dan Newspaper in 2025 took place from May 19 to May 26 at Tien Son Sports Palace (Da Nang). The final match of the men's team event on the evening of May 22 between the T&T People's Police Team (CAND T&T) 1 and Hanoi Team 1 took place with a surprising scenario.
In the first match, the 2009-born talent of Hanoi 1, Do Manh Luong, caused some difficulties for SEA Games champion Dinh Anh Hoang of CAND T&T 1 in the first set. However, Dinh Anh Hoang's bravery and experience helped this player win against the young talent of Hanoi 1 with the scores of 14-12, 11-6 and 11-9 respectively.
The highlight of the final match was the competition between Nguyen Anh Tu, the male player considered the number 1 in Vietnamese table tennis today, who has won the men's singles championship three times, and Le Dinh Duc. And the surprise happened when the player of the CAND T&T 1 Team, despite being rated lower, played brilliantly and won three sets against Nguyen Anh Tu with the scores of 11-7, 13-11 and 12-10.
The victories of Dinh Anh Hoang and Le Dinh Duc helped Ta Hong Khanh enter the third match against Do Tuan Kiet (Hanoi 1) with full confidence. The player of CAND T&T 1 team played overwhelmingly and also won 3-0 with the scores of 11-9, 11-6 and 11-5. Thus, with 3 big victories, CAND T&T 1 surpassed Hanoi to win the men's team championship that fell to Hanoi 1 in last year's tournament.
"Last year, we (CAND T&T Team) lost 2-3 to the Hanoi Team, when athlete Nguyen Anh Tu showed an outstanding level. But this year, our athlete Le Dinh Duc was excellent in winning against Anh Tu. This victory created a strong mental boost for the whole team to win the final match", Coach Phan Huy Hoang - in charge of the CAND T&T 1 men's team shared after the final match.
Get the secret to continuous success
The men's team championship at the 43rd National Table Tennis Championship of Nhan Dan Newspaper in 2025 is the latest success added to the achievements of CAND T&T Table Tennis Club. Previously, in April, young player Nguyen Van Tuan Anh also brought home a Gold medal in the men's team event (paired with athlete Nguyen Duc Viet - Hai Duong Club) at the 2025 Southeast Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship.
It is worth noting that the CAND T&T Table Tennis Club was newly established at the end of May 2024 after the Vietnam CAND Sports Association and T&T Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation. Immediately after its establishment, the CAND T&T Table Tennis Club participated in the 2024 National Table Tennis Championship in Nha Trang and won 2 Gold medals and 3 Silver medals.
Next, at the 2024 National Youth, Teenager and Children's Table Tennis Championship held in Da Nang, the CAND T&T Table Tennis Club excellently won the overall first place with 13 Gold medals, 7 Silver medals and 10 Bronze medals. This result far exceeded the goal set before the tournament. This is truly an impressive achievement for a newly established high-performance sports unit.
Speaking to reporters on the morning of May 23, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hong Tham, Deputy Director of the CAND Sports Training and Competition Center, affirmed that since its establishment, the CAND T&T Table Tennis Club has received attention, close direction and facilitation from the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, the Department of Political Work...
According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hong Tham, the athletes of the T&T Police Table Tennis Club are given the opportunity to practice with adequate facilities, and more importantly, compete and train regularly to improve their skills. Evidence of this is the training trip of key athletes of the T&T Police Table Tennis Club in China right before the 43rd National Table Tennis Championship of Nhan Dan Newspaper in 2025.
Another factor mentioned by Senior Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hong Tham is socialization. Affirming that this is a correct policy of the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Association, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hong Tham said that the People's Public Security table tennis has a solid foundation in terms of discipline, perseverance and competitive spirit. However, to compete at the top, these traditional qualities need to be combined with a modern, professional training environment, along with advanced material and technical conditions. The cooperation with T&T Group helps the People's Public Security table tennis have more resources in training and developing athletes, especially key athletes and young athletes with great potential. This is especially important for high-performance athletes when competitions are increasingly fierce and full of surprises.
Looking at the success of CAND table tennis in recent times, it can be seen that this is a vivid proof of the effectiveness of the model of socializing sports - a direction that the Vietnam CAND Sports Association has advocated from the beginning. The cooperation between CAND Sports, which has a long tradition, and a private economic unit such as T&T Group has been and is showing effectiveness. This also suggests a direction for sustainable development for high-performance sports in Vietnam.
On the morning of May 23 in Da Nang, the Organizing Committee of the 43rd National Table Tennis Championship of Nhan Dan Newspaper in 2025 announced the cancellation of the competition on May 24 and 25. The tournament will adjust the competition schedule to accommodate the competition of the events.
Previously, on May 22, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued an Official Dispatch regarding the flying of flags at half-mast and the suspension of public entertainment activities during the State Funeral of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
