On the morning of July 27, Vo Thi My Tien competed in the qualifying round of the 200m medley. This event gathered many strong swimmers of the world such as Canadian record holder Summer McIntosh.
There are also some names like Yu Yiting (China), Alex Walsh (USA), Abbie Wood (UK)... Therefore, Vo Thi My Tien's chance of competing for a ticket to the semi-finals is considered not high.
However, she still left an impression when she entered the water on the morning of July 27. She was in Group 1, which gathered swimmers who were not too outstanding. My Tien's biggest rival was Kamonchanok Kwanmuang, a young athlete from Thailand.
In the end, the Vietnamese swimmer was the winner of this group with a time of 2 minutes 16.96 seconds. Kwanmuang came in second, 2.15 seconds behind My Tien.
This result was not enough to help the swimmer from Long An enter the top 15 swimmers with the best results and win a ticket to the semi-finals of the World Swimming Championship.
However, the homepage of the International Federation of Aquatics (FINA) also confirmed the new milestone for My Tien. Specifically, 2 minutes 16.96 seconds is her best ever achievement in the 200m medley.
Born in 2005, Vo Thi My Tien is one of the swimmers who has made very rapid progress. She often attracts attention in domestic competitions when she can compete in many different distances such as 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m and 1,500m.
Last year, Tien was one of the Vietnamese athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
