The Volkswagen Tayron will officially launch in the Australian market in September as a replacement for the Tiguan Allspace. This model will be positioned between its two siblings, the 5-seat Tiguan and the Touareg in Volkswagen's product line. Like its predecessor, the Tiguan Allspace, the Volkswagen Tayron is essentially a stretched version of the Tiguan.

Developed on the upgraded MQB Evo platform like the new Tiguan, the Volkswagen Tayron has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,792 x 1,852 x 1,660 mm and a wheelbase of 2,791 mm.

Compared to the Volkswagen Tiguan, the car is 253 mm longer, 10 mm wider and 21 mm taller while the wheelbase is 114 mm longer. Compared to the previous generation Tiguan Allspace, the Tayron is 66 mm longer, 13 mm wider and the wheelbase is 2 mm longer. Not only the chassis, the Volkswagen Tayron also shares a modern design language with the Tiguan.

Notable features include an optional LED daytime running light strip across the front of the car, a large sawtooth grille, trapezoidal headlights, a separate hood crease from the lights, prominent side skirts, a widened rear hip, and an upper glass border extending to the rear windshield.

The rear of this SUV also has a strip of lights running across the hood, creating a similarity with the front. The top-end R-Line version is equipped with matrix LED headlights with 19,200 multi-point diodes. Inside the car, the Volkswagen Tayron has a rectangular dashboard design, creating a difference from the Tiguan.

The car's center console is located high, integrating knobs to adjust the volume, driving mode, drive system and interior lighting. Volkswagen also promises to bring a premium feel to the car with soft-touch materials in the interior. The Elegance version has real wood paneling while the R-Line version has stitched imitation leather and aluminum trim.

In Australia, all versions of the Tayron are equipped with a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro digital dashboard and a 12.9-inch central touchscreen with integrated navigation, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. The climate control system is controlled by a touchscreen and has a backlight, overcoming a previously criticized weakness.

The R-Line version is upgraded to a 15-inch Discover Pro Max central touchscreen, with a head-up display and a Harman Kardon sound system. ErgoActive front seats with electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, memory and massage are equipped from the 150TSI Elegance version and above.

The second row of seats can slide/recline in a 60:40 ratio with a central armrest. The armrest comes with a cup holder and a phone/tablet tray that can be adjusted left/right. The third row of seats can be folded, expanding the luggage compartment capacity to 850 liters (an increase of 15 liters compared to the Tiguan Allspace) while the 5-seat 150TSI Life has a large trunk of 885 liters.

In the Australian market, the car will have three petrol engine options. The first is a 1.4L, turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine that produces a maximum capacity of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm on the 110TSI Life version. The second is a 2.0L engine, combined with the 4Motion four-wheel drive system, producing a maximum capacity of 204 horsepower on the 150TSI Life and Elegance versions.
12.png
Third is the 265 horsepower and 400 Nm engine on the 195TSI R-Line. All versions use a 7-speed DSG wet dual-clutch transmission.
10.png
Unlike other markets, the Volkswagen Tayron in Australia does not have a mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. In addition, the Volkswagen Tayron also has the XDS traction control system combined with braking and Vehicle Dynamics Manager as standard.
11.png
The R-Line also gets the DCC Pro adaptive damping system. All versions support the Travel Assist level 2 semi-autonomous driving feature, along with safety technologies such as automatic emergency braking, front/rear cross-traffic alert, parking assist, open door warning and 9 airbags.

The upcoming launch of the Volkswagen Tayron in Australia is a sign that the model is also preparing to be available in Southeast Asia. It would not be surprising if the Volkswagen Tayron is introduced in Vietnam in the future.
