VTV Can Tho meets witnesses of the first day of national reunification

On the evening of April 26, the Vietnam Television Center in the Southwest region organized a live television program "Joining Hands" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification.

This big hand-holding event is an opportunity for Can Tho people and young people to relive historical moments and emotional memories of the first days of liberation told by historical witnesses.

Notably, just two days after the complete liberation of the South, Can Tho Radio and Television Station broadcast images and announcements from the revolutionary government to tens of millions of people in the Southwest.

Can Tho Radio was one of the two largest television stations in the South at that time.

The uninterrupted broadcasting of revolutionary television 50 years ago was linked to a bold decision: to re-use the staff of the old regime to operate the television broadcasting apparatus.

To effectively implement the policy of retaining old cadres, a cautious, skillful and humane approach is needed.

Journalist Duong Hong Ky - former deputy director of VTV Can Tho - shared: "Any value that aims towards the future of the nation must be preserved. Therefore, harmony requires courage, putting national interests first is the most important thing."

Present at the program, Major General - Hero of the People's Armed Forces Le Thanh Son - former captain of Can Tho province - recalled memories of when he was the commander of one of the three attack forces to liberate Can Tho.

With the spirit of "one day equals twenty years", the flag of the liberation army fluttered in the joy of victory.
