Coast Guard Region 3 launches high-profile competition to combat IUU fishing

On the morning of August 6, in Phuoc Thang Ward (HCMC), the Command of Coast Guard Region 3 held a ceremony to launch a peak emulation campaign with the theme "Promoting the spirit of responsibility, solidarity, coordination, and resolutely fighting against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing".

The emulation campaign takes place from now until September 2, focusing on 6 key contents, emphasizing: thoroughly grasping and seriously implementing the policies and directions of the Party, Government, and Ministry of National Defense on combating IUU fishing; raising awareness and political responsibility for 100% of officers and soldiers; strictly maintaining discipline in commanding, inspecting, and controlling fishing vessel activities, especially in sea areas bordering foreign countries, key and complicated areas...

The Regional Command also stepped up propaganda and dissemination of laws; fought against false information related to IUU; coordinated investigations and strictly handled violations, and clarified the lines of organizations that brought fishing vessels to illegally exploit in foreign waters. Logistics, technical and financial work were also focused on to ensure the effectiveness of patrol and control tasks at sea.

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Cao Xuan Quan, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 3, requested Party committees and commanders of units to thoroughly grasp the goals, contents and emulation targets; promote the spirit of self-reliance, self-strengthening, steadfast political will, proactiveness, creativity, and determination to overcome all difficulties to complete the tasks.

“Each officer and soldier must be a role model, actively compete, make achievements, and excellently complete all assigned tasks. Through the emulation period, each unit must create a substantial and effective change in law enforcement, combat IUU fishing, and firmly protect security, order, and safety at sea,” Colonel Cao Xuan Quan emphasized.
