According to the Management Board of Tho Quang Fishing Port and Lock, as of 7:30 a.m. on November 6, the entire lock area had 654 vessels anchored safely, including: 388 Da Nang vessels, 77 Quang Ngai vessels, 15 Quang Tri vessels, 48 Thanh Hoa vessels, 32 Thua Thien - Hue vessels, 80 Binh Dinh vessels, 4 Ha Tinh vessels, 5 Ho Chi Minh City vessels, 1 Vinh Long vessel, 2 Gia Lai vessels, 1 Khanh Hoa vessel, 1 Dong Thap vessel and 175 small boats of local fishermen.
From early morning, the Tho Quang port area was bustling with boats coming in and out, with loudspeakers and engines mixed with reminders to tie anchor ropes and arrange positions to avoid collisions. Authorities were on duty to guide the boats into the correct channel, ensuring safety and order.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hau (owner of ship ĐNA 90135 TS, Son Tra ward) said that as soon as he heard that the storm was getting stronger and could directly affect the Da Nang area, he and his crew quickly collected their nets and returned to shore that night. “We took advantage of the early arrival at the dock to choose a safe anchorage location, carefully tied the ropes, reinforced the buoys and checked all the equipment on the ship. Experience from previous storms shows that just a little bit of subjectivity can cause heavy damage,” Mr. Hau shared.
Sharing the same proactive mindset, Mr. Vo Ba Binh (owner of fishing boat QNA 91866 TS, Da Nang city) said that after docking, he and his crew focused on reinforcing the roof, anchoring the boat in clusters and turning off all electrical equipment to ensure safety. This year's storm is forecast to have very strong winds, so we absolutely do not leave the boat without a safety notice. Each boat owner reminds each other to carefully secure their property and that of the fishing community.
Currently, the Tho Quang Fishing Port and Lock Management Board has deployed many plans to ensure safety for boats taking shelter from the storm; in which, the unit arranges forces on duty 24/24 hours, coordinates with border guards, police and local authorities to guide boats to appropriate anchorage positions, avoiding collisions or congestion. The electrical system, lighting, information loudspeakers and rescue vehicles are all checked and ready to operate when necessary.
Mr. Nguyen Lai, Head of the Tho Quang Fishing Port and Lock Management Board, said that the work of counting, checking boats and controlling entry and exit is being tightened. The authorities require boat owners to absolutely not go out to sea or anchor outside the estuary; at the same time, they advise fishermen to strictly follow the instructions of the disaster prevention agency to ensure the safety of life and property.
In the context of the complicated developments of storm No. 13, the initiative of fishermen and the sense of responsibility of functional forces at Tho Quang fishing port demonstrate the high determination of Da Nang city in ensuring safety for people and vehicles, minimizing damage when the storm makes landfall.
