Heavy rains over the past few days combined with the release of floodwaters from the Da Nhim - Ham Thuan - Da Mi hydropower plant have severely damaged hundreds of hectares of vegetables in the Da Lat vegetable area (including Da Lat, Don Duong, and Duc Trong). In particular, the Don Duong vegetable area (the largest vegetable granary in Lam Dong ) was completely submerged.
In the Da Nhim River area, water rose on both banks, in some places "eaten" dozens of meters deep, washing away the banks, paths and vegetable gardens.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan, a farmer in Ka Do commune, said his family's nearly 1 hectare beetroot garden has been submerged by floodwaters for the past two days.
"The floodwaters were just released in the morning, but by noon the water was almost 2 meters deep. It was a total loss, with damage of more than 100 million VND," said Mr. Xuan.
Not far away, Mr. Dang Van Huu's greenhouse was also flooded almost to the roof, all the short-term vegetables were damaged. After the water level went down, Mr. Huu and his family went to save the vegetables but were unsuccessful. "Now I hope the weather clears up soon so I can renovate the garden and plant a new crop while vegetable prices are still high," Mr. Huu said.

According to information from the Department of Industry and Trade of Lam Dong province, the flood discharge through the spillway of Don Duong lake has deeply inundated hundreds of hectares of vegetable land along the Da Nhim river, in the communes of D'Ran, Ka Do, Don Duong and Quang Lap. In D'Ran commune alone - the downstream area near the foot of the hydroelectric dam - more than 300 hectares of vegetables were flooded.
Although there was no flooding in the Da Lat area, the prolonged heavy rains caused severe damage to most of the leafy vegetables and fruits grown outdoors. On November 19, at Da Lat market, the prices of many types of vegetables increased sharply. Items in the leafy vegetable group such as lettuce, green onions, green mustard, Chinese cabbage, cabbage... increased by 30-35% compared to the end of September 2025.
According to vegetable growers, prices of onions, carrots, and radishes have not increased yet, but supplies are scarce, and many places cannot place orders for next week.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province said that recent heavy rains damaged about 2,000 hectares of vegetables and flowers, of which 1,000 hectares of vegetables grown outdoors were completely lost. Many areas of young vegetables were also flooded and rotten, and farmers had to wait for the soil to dry for about 15 days before they could replant.
