Dong Khanh Son Commune: Many "nuclei" promote poverty reduction

On the socio -economic development journey of Dong Khanh Son commune, there are many examples of ethnic minorities (EM) who are recognized as good farmers and businessmen at all levels. They are the "nuclei" that arouse the will to self-reliance of EM households, contributing to the effective implementation of poverty reduction work in the locality.

Typical examples

In Tha Mang village (Dong Khanh Son commune), Mr. Bo Bo Nien, a Raglai ethnic minority, is known as a typical example of a good farmer in production and business. Previously, Mr. Nien's family was a poor household in the locality, with their main income coming from growing corn and cassava on the fields and working for hire. Determined to escape poverty, Mr. Nien borrowed capital from the Social Policy Bank to invest in planting and raising livestock. With the knowledge and experience he learned while working for other gardeners, he has actively applied it to taking care of his family's garden. Up to now, he has planted 200 fruit trees of all kinds on an area of nearly 1 hectare, most of which have been harvested; maintaining acacia areas far from water sources. Short-term income supports long-term income. In addition to income from fruit trees and forest gardens, his family also opened a small shop, purchased agricultural products from villagers, bought a car to transport passengers... Now, Mr. Nien's family has not only escaped poverty but also has a comfortable life, with a total annual income of more than 1 billion VND.

Mr. Dang Nang Xuan, a Cham ethnic in Suoi Da village, is also a typical example of a good farmer and businessman thanks to growing fruit trees. Previously, like many other households in the village, his family's life was always precarious and lacking when only growing corn and rice. Worried about the story of Dong Khanh Son commune having favorable natural conditions, land and climate very suitable for fruit trees, especially durian, he decided to switch to growing 500 durian trees and intercropping some mangosteen trees. Up to now, these fruit trees have brought a stable source of income for his family. After deducting the investment cost for the crops, this year's fruit crop, durian and mangosteen, has brought his family 850 million VND.

In recent years, the movement of farmers competing in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty has been widely implemented in Dong Khanh Son commune in the fields of agricultural and forestry production, becoming a driving force to exploit the existing potential and strengths of the locality, contributing to the economic restructuring of the commune, gradually changing the lives and improving the economy of local people, especially ethnic minorities. In the period of 2023 - 2025, in the commune, there are 2,000 households recognized as good farmers and business households at all levels, of which more than 60% are ethnic minorities. In the area, there are more and more examples of exemplary farmers in production and business, who have been commended by all levels and sectors, including many exemplary ethnic minority people, such as Mr. and Mrs. Mau Nien, Cao Van Nguc (Suoi Da village), Tro Thi Hop (Chi Chay village), Mau Thi Hiem (Ta Nia village)... with an income of hundreds of millions of dong each year.

Contribute to poverty reduction

The examples of ethnic minority farmers who are good at production and business in Dong Khanh Son commune all have in common that they do not have the mentality of waiting or relying on the support policies of the State, but are full of determination, eager to learn, hard-working and have the desire to get rich in their homeland. In addition to enriching themselves, they also help other ethnic minority households to escape poverty; actively participate in many socio-economic development activities, new rural construction... of the locality. For example, Mr. Dang Nang Xuan has supported many poor households in the village to escape poverty sustainably; mobilized 55 farmer members to contribute labor and money to build 500m of concrete road from Suoi Da to Ba Cum Nam...

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Danh - Vice Chairman of Dong Khanh Son Commune People's Committee, in addition to enriching their families, ethnic minority households that are good at production and business are also the "nucleus" to promote poverty reduction in the locality. They are role models for their families and villages to learn from and follow in order to improve their lives; care for and support other poor households with business experience, techniques for taking care of crops and livestock, and even provide capital support, create jobs... for other households to do business to escape poverty sustainably. "To strive for Dong Khanh Son commune to have no more poor households by 2030, according to the target set by the Resolution of the Commune Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term, it is largely thanks to the will to rise up of the people themselves, in which the "nucleus" are good production and business households that have spread and aroused the will to rise up of the whole community, helping many other ethnic minority households overcome the mentality of waiting and relying on the support of the State. This is very important, because the locality has a large number of ethnic minority households, and they have a very low starting point, so every household that escapes poverty sustainably is a great success," Mr. Danh emphasized.
