The Asian region has been awarded 4 places to the 2023 U17 World Cup Finals. The qualifying round to determine the representatives is also the U17 Asian Finals taking place in Thailand. The 4 semi-finalists will be the owners of 4 tickets to the world's biggest football festival for the U17 age group.
U17 Korea, U17 Uzbekistan, U17 Iran and U17 Japan are the Asian representatives participating in the U17 World Cup. In the quarter-finals, U17 Korea easily defeated host U17 Thailand with a score of 4-1. Meanwhile, U17 Uzbekistan excellently defeated U17 Saudi Arabia 2-0.
U17 Uzbekistan won the last ticket to the 2023 U17 World Cup.
Japan U17 also did not let Australia U17 cause a surprise with a 3-1 victory. The most dramatic match was between Iran U17 and Yemen U17. The two teams were undecided in the official match time. In the penalty shootout, Iran U17 showed more courage to bring home a 4-2 victory and a ticket to the World Cup.
The 2023 U17 World Cup Finals will be held in Indonesia. Therefore, Asia will have the 5th representative in this tournament. FIFA just decided to award the hosting rights to Indonesia a few days ago, when Peru was stripped of the right to host due to not meeting FIFA's standards. This move by FIFA is also considered as compensation when Indonesia was stripped of the right to host the U20 World Cup Finals in May.
The 2023 U17 World Cup finals will take place from November 10 to December 2. 24 teams will be divided into 6 groups. The top 2 teams in each group and the 4 best third-placed teams will advance to the round of 16.
