The first match of the quarter-finals of the 2023 Asian Cup is the clash between Jordan and Tajikistan. Although underestimated by their opponents, Tajikistan played confidently and did not hide their ambition to play offensively.
They pushed up their formation and tried to find a goal. The first dangerous chance of the match belonged to this team when Ekhson's shot hit the crossbar of the Jordan goal.
After this move, the match became more tense with many strong collisions in the midfield area. Jordanian players had many difficulties in approaching the opponent's penalty area. It was not until the 35th minute that Ali Olwan had a notable shot in the penalty area but he could not beat the Jordanian goalkeeper.
An own goal eliminated Tajikistan.
The first 45 minutes continued in the second half, with Tajikistan having a dangerous chance before Shervoni Mabatshoev broke into the box and shot just wide. Meanwhile, Jordan were still unable to control the ball and create enough pressure to score.
But luck called Al Mardhi and his teammates. From this player's corner kick, Abdallah Nasib rushed in to head the ball but missed. The effort of the center-back wearing the number 3 shirt made Vahdat Hanonov put the ball into his own net. The opening goal came to the Jordan team in a way that few expected.
Tajikistan (white shirt) lost to the opponent.
With nothing left to lose, the Tajikistan team poured their entire squad into the opponent's half to score an equalizer. However, coach Petar Segrt and his team could not find a way into the Jordan team's goal.
In the end, the Tajikistan team lost 0-1 to the Jordan team and said goodbye to the 2023 Asian Cup.
