Building a "Happy School" for a civilized, friendly and safe educational environment

Inspired by the Happy School model of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), the "Happy School" model is being implemented in many localities across the country, including the Thanh Hoa education sector.

Since the 2021-2022 school year, the Thanh Hoa education sector has launched the implementation of this model in schools with the message "Schools, teachers and staff change towards a civilized, friendly and safe pedagogical environment". Responding to this model, school units in the province have closely followed the criteria to build "Happy Schools", focusing on building an ideal working and learning environment for both teachers and students; creating the best conditions for each teacher and student to have the opportunity to develop, demonstrate and affirm their own abilities as well as share and help each other in teaching, learning and training.

In reality, the value and goal of schools is to create a safe, healthy, and friendly educational environment for both teachers and students. However, the impact of many subjective and objective factors, especially the negative impacts of the negative side of the market economy and social networks, has significantly affected the psychology of students, causing many to have thoughts and actions that deviate from ethical and cultural standards. In recent times, many heartbreaking incidents have occurred involving students in a number of localities both inside and outside the province, such as: students fighting and filming clips posted on social networks, tragic deaths when students were beaten by a group or "physically impacted" and many other accidents and risks. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 10 cases of school violence in the province; including cases with particularly serious consequences, such as the case of a female student at Nong Cong 2 High School being beaten and having a clip posted on social networks; The case of a number of students at Dang Thai Mai High School, Quang Binh Commune, fighting each other, causing one student to die. Most recently, a male student at Thanh Hoa Agricultural College, Trieu Son Commune, was beaten to death by a group of 11th grade students... This situation has left behind a huge aftershock and consequences. It is like a black dot on a white sheet of paper, causing skepticism, loss of trust, negatively affecting the educational environment and causing outrage in public opinion.

All of those reasons are the fundamental motivation that forces us to change to build a "Happy School" - a place without school violence, without violations of teachers' ethics, without acts that insult the honor, dignity, and body of teachers and students; a place where teachers and students receive knowledge, share, sympathize, and love.

According to the representative of the leadership of Le Lai High School, Kien Tho commune, to build a "Happy School", in addition to building solidarity, love, sincerity and sharing with each other among the staff and teachers, the school also focuses on building a clean, beautiful, safe and friendly school space. In particular, the school always pays attention to building a culture of behavior. Being strict is necessary, but teachers need to be friendly and close to students, spend more time listening to their thoughts and wishes to understand them better. Teachers also need to replace words of criticism and criticism with words of encouragement, praise and encouragement for students. Because positive discipline will make students feel grateful and change and correct themselves, not punish them. In reality, there is no universal method for all pedagogical situations, but if it comes from love and respect, it will be effective.

At Hoang Quy Kindergarten, Hoang Giang commune, the goal of building a "Happy School" starts with "Happy Classrooms". There, each teacher is always close to and loves children; encourages and respects children so that they are interested and happy to participate in activities when going to school and class. The requirement of the Board of Directors of Hoang Quy Kindergarten is that despite the pressure at work, sometimes stressful and tiring, each teacher must always give children smiles and love so that children feel "every day at school is a happy day". Only when teachers and students are in a comfortable mood, children love going to school, staff and teachers are united, sincere and respect each other, then the school will certainly be happy.

Happiness is what each of us always desires in life. At different times or circumstances, we always desire to have happiness with different connotations. That is also the goal of life, the goal of action of each person in life. Education plays an important role in the formation and development of each person's intelligence. Therefore, bringing happiness to learners is one of the important factors in the educational process. From that role and meaning, many people believe that, to successfully build a "Happy School", first of all, the education sector and each school unit must build a happy pedagogical environment, happy teachers. If teachers feel happy, they will spread this energy to students. Happy teachers, happy students will create happy classrooms, happy schools and spread to happy families and society.
