Ho Chi Minh City: A tractor trailer carrying 20-ton steel coils on Nguyen Van Linh Street, District 7, suddenly plunged into a pond. The driver was lucky to escape in time, on the morning of January 16.

At around 9:30 a.m., a male driver was driving a tractor-trailer carrying steel coils from Tan Thuan Industrial Park to Binh Chanh District. Just 500 meters past the Tan Thuan 2 Bridge intersection, the truck suddenly crashed through the median strip, plunged into a roadside pond, and flipped over.

At this time, the chain broke, causing the steel coil to fall onto the sidewalk. Part of the cabin sank into the water, and the driver managed to open the door and escape. When the accident happened, the road was empty, so there were no casualties.

At the scene, the tractor trailer was lying across the sidewalk, the heavy steel coils had sunk the brick floor, creating a deep hole. At nearly 11am, authorities dispatched a crane to remove the steel coils and the damaged vehicle.

According to the police, the driver may have lost control of his speed and crashed into the median strip, causing the heavy steel coil to create inertia, causing the car to plunge into the lake.

In August 2023, a tractor-trailer suddenly braked, causing a 20-ton steel coil to fall forward and crush the cabin on this route. Before that, a steel coil also crushed the cabin, causing it to deform and then fall onto the sidewalk in Di An City, Binh Duong .

Accidents caused by trucks carrying steel coils frequently occur in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Nai , causing danger, but up to now there have been no regulations on securing the goods and handling violations to ensure safety.

The Ministry of Transport is drafting a Circular regulating the loading of goods on vehicles when participating in road traffic. Accordingly, containers must be suitable for the type and characteristics of goods to be loaded; padding and lining must ensure that the goods inside do not shift during transportation.
