Palm land in the border region

HeritageHeritage17/04/2024

Palm trees are grown in many provinces such as Long An, Dong Thap, Kien Giang or An Giang . The Bay Nui region - An Giang - is considered the "land" of this tree species with over 35,000 trees (statistics in 2023). People still call Bay Nui That Son, which is said to be an undulating mountain range consisting of seven discontinuous peaks, spanning Tinh Bien town and Tri Ton district. Thanks to its unique climate and soil, this land is suitable for the growth of palm trees, adding to the idyllic and poetic beauty of the landscape. Indeed, it is not wrong to say that the Bay Nui area is considered the "palm heart" of the southwestern border region. In the dry season, rows of green palm trees stretch high into the air, facing the sun and wind, symbolizing the patience and overcoming difficulties of the Khmer people. Wandering the streets of Tinh Bien, visitors cannot help but be surprised by the beauty of the “twin palm trees” dotted on the immense rice fields in Van Giao commune. Or those are the rows of tall palm trees running straight and shady in An Nong commune. Visitors can also easily see the scene of herds of cows crossing the palm fields in the dry season or the "dance" of people climbing trees to quickly collect palm juice from the pistils of flowers. In particular, during the flood season, photographers often visit the palm trees behind the Khmer pagoda called “Sa – Dach – Tot” in Vinh Trung commune (Tinh Bien). This is where many beautiful works are created with the scene of fishermen casting nets to catch fish on the lake reflecting the “legendary” palm trees. Source
