Bare feet and the journey to find words for you

For the people, teachers and friends of Quy Chau High School, Nghe An , the image of a slim boy named Vi Tuan Khanh, who has been carrying his friend on his back to school for over a decade, regardless of the sun or rain, is very familiar. He is Vi Tuan Khanh (born in 2006, student of class 12C3, Quy Chau High School, Nghe An).

The friend that Vi Tuan Khanh carries to school every day is Vi Nhat Canh. Born into a poor family, Vi Nhat Canh also has cerebral palsy which causes his limbs to be crippled. However, the poor student's dream of going to school always burns brightly.

Loving her son, Vi Thi Hoa, despite her illness, still tried to take him to school every day. At the end of first grade, Canh's father left without reason, making the already difficult life of the mother and son even more difficult. Because no one took him to school, Canh agreed to stay at home.

Ms. Hoa said, “I was sick and my father left, so the family had a lot of difficulty taking me to school, so my studies were interrupted. Luckily, Khanh came to my house to encourage me and promised to carry me to school.”

To help you find the letters, from primary school to high school, Thong Khanh did not hesitate to carry you to school every day.

“When I was in second grade, every time I passed by my friend Canh’s house, I saw him crawling out the door and saying he wanted to go to school. When I got home, I told my parents that I wanted to carry him to school and they agreed. My mother also explained that my father was illiterate and had a very difficult life. From that thought, I thought about my friend. If Canh’s dream of going to school was crushed, my future would be even more uncertain,” Khanh recalled.

Since that day, the image of a skinny boy with bare feet, regardless of the sun or rain, carrying his friend to school every day has made everyone unable to hold back their tears.

“The primary school is about 2km from home. The dirt road was very difficult to travel on, and without sandals, my feet bled many times. Every time I was tired, my friends and I would sit down on the side of the road to rest and regain our strength before continuing,” Khanh added.

Just like that, throughout primary school, Khanh regularly carried his friend to school every day. When he reached secondary school, seeing how difficult their situation was, his uncle bought Khanh a bicycle to carry his friend. From then on, the children's joy was doubled.

Make dreams come true

Vi Tuan Khanh's parents got married and had two children (Khanh is the eldest in the family). The family's economy depends on farming. Khanh's mother is sick all year round so the family is considered poor. The only asset is an old house, but the family's life is very happy.

Although Vi Tuan Khanh has difficult circumstances, he is always a shining example for his friends to follow.

Khanh and Canh's houses are only about 100m apart. In addition to the warm friendship of the two students, the affection between the two families is also very rare. They share everything in life to rise up.

Behind the story of helping you go to school are the silent sacrifices of parents who are passionate about their children's future. When Khanh was in high school, the distance to school was 6km away from home, so his parents had to sell their cows and contribute with Canh's family to buy a motorbike (a motorbike for students) for their child to go to school and take his friends to school.

After school hours, Vi Tuan Khanh diligently helps his parents with housework.

Ms. Vi Thi Sau (Khanh's mother) said that seeing her children riding bicycles every day made her feel very sorry. Because school was further away from home, the family had to sell their cow to buy motorbikes so that the children could travel more easily.

Just like in middle school, Khanh drove to pick you up early, carried you to the car, and at the school gate, he carefully carried you to class.

Ms. Vi Thi Sau is very proud of her son.

"Born into a poor family, Khanh always tried hard in his studies. In grades 10 and 11, he was a good student, and in grade 12, he was an excellent student. The story of him carrying his friend Canh to school for many years has made everyone extremely impressed," teacher Cam Thi Hoa (Khanh's homeroom teacher) proudly said about her student.

It is known that due to his congenital disability, Vi Nhat Canh was given special consideration and was exempted from the 2024 high school graduation exam. This year, Canh registered for university admission in the Information Technology major at Nghe An University of Economics, while Khanh registered for the Geography Pedagogy major at Vinh University.

“We don’t know what the result will be, but if we pass, we will continue to accompany each other in Vinh city. I am ready to carry you to the lecture hall, where our long-standing dream has come true,” Khanh and Canh wish.
