Google has just released a new feature to help people easily identify legitimate government applications and prevent fake applications on Google Play.

Google has announced the Government App Authentication feature to enhance anti-fraud and online safety in Vietnam. This is the result of cooperation between the Authority of Information Security (AIS), Ministry of Information and Communications and Google.

The two organizations have worked together to verify the legitimacy of government applications, ensuring that they truly represent state agencies and provide essential services to Vietnamese citizens.

Users will see a "Validate Government Apps" label on legitimate apps

From now on, when opening the Google Play app store, users will see the "Verified Government Apps" label on legitimate apps, helping to reassure about the credibility of the app. This initiative is quite important as the demand for public services in Vietnam is increasing and the number of Government apps on the platform is also growing rapidly.

The Authority of Information Security also encourages Government agencies to submit their applications for verification and authentication labeling. Currently, Google has cooperated with AIS to label "Government Application Authentication" for more than 80 Government applications in Vietnam, including VNeID, VssID, TCT Electronic Invoice, i-SPEED of VNNIC, Ministry of Health Public Services, etc.

In addition, to better protect users in Vietnam, Google is also implementing a new method on Google Play Protect to prevent financial fraud. This anti-fraud protection feature will analyze and automatically block the installation of applications that require sensitive access permissions, which are often exploited for financial fraud purposes. This can happen when users install applications from download sources outside the Internet (web browsers, messaging applications or file managers).

When users in Vietnam install applications from download sources outside the Internet and any of the four permissions above are declared, Play Protect will automatically block the installation and provide explanatory information to the user.
