From January 1 to 7, the provincial traffic police handled 2,035 cases of traffic safety violations, revoked 146 driving licenses, and deducted points from 206 driving licenses.
Of which, there were 365 cases of alcohol concentration violations, 622 cases of speeding violations, 25 cases of overloading, 35 cases of entering prohibited roads...
Notably, there were 35 cases of red light violations, including 1 car and 34 motorbikes. For the violation of not obeying traffic signals, car drivers will be fined 19 million VND, motorbike drivers will be fined 5 million VND/case.
According to officers of the Traffic Police Team - Public Order of some localities, with violations that have increased fines in Decree 168 such as not obeying traffic lights and going against traffic, the number of violators has decreased significantly.
After 1 week of implementing Decree 168, there have been positive signs regarding people's awareness of obeying traffic laws. Many people agree with the increased fines of Decree 168 because it is enough of a deterrent, contributing to forming good habits when participating in traffic.
Decree 168/2024/ND-CP of the Government , regulating administrative sanctions for violations of traffic order and safety in the field of road traffic; deduction of points, restoration of driving license points, effective from January 1, 2025.
Accordingly, many violations will be subject to a sharp increase in penalties, such as driving a car through a red light will be fined 18-20 million VND, more than 3 times higher than before. Drivers violating the alcohol concentration of 0.25-0.4 mg/liter of breath or 50-80 mg/100ml of blood will be fined 18-20 million VND, an increase of 2 million VND.
For motorbikes, instead of being fined 800,000 - 1 million VND for running a red light, from January 1, 2025, this violation will be fined from 4-6 million VND (5-6 times higher).
Motorcyclists on the road with blood or breath alcohol concentration exceeding 50 - 80mg/100ml of blood or exceeding 0.25 - 0.4mg/liter of breath will be fined 6 - 8 million (increased by 2-3 million VND).
In addition, some acts such as transporting goods on a vehicle that is not securely tied; obstructing or failing to comply with inspection and control requests from law enforcement officers; failing to comply with traffic controllers' instructions... will have fines 3-30 times higher than current ones.
