100% of schools in Lang Son resume teaching and learning after the impact of natural disasters

The working delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training presented 1 billion VND along with 15,000 sets of school supplies and 300 sets of textbooks to the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 3.

On the morning of September 15, a working delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training led by Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong inspected the work of overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 in the education sector of Lang Son province.

Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province, Ha Thi Khanh Van, said that the province has 78 flooded schools; 118 schools have collapsed walls, school gates, blown roofs, broken trees... needing support to repair, with an estimated total damage of over 3.2 billion VND.

There are 158 students who need financial support, school supplies, and textbooks to continue studying; 38 cadres, teachers, and staff need support; 23 school libraries were damaged by floods and need additional books to maintain operations.

Immediately after the storm, the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province proactively reviewed, inspected, planned and immediately implemented the repair of school infrastructure, especially prioritizing items that pose a risk to safety; evacuating students, teachers, facilities and teaching equipment from severely damaged or unsafe areas.

Ms. Ha Thi Khanh Van informed that the Department has directed and requested schools to continue to count the damage to facilities, teaching equipment, textbooks, and school supplies for schools and students, and at the same time, mobilize support from mass organizations and people to promptly overcome the damage... Up to now, 100% of schools in Lang Son have resumed teaching and learning.

During the inspection, the delegation members and Lang Son province exchanged and discussed plans to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 3 to schools; receiving and using funding effectively; supporting teachers and students severely affected by natural disasters; and implementing teaching and learning to ensure time and progress of the school year.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong shared the difficulties with Lang Son province, including the education sector. At the same time, he acknowledged and highly appreciated the province's efforts and proactive spirit in implementing measures to prevent, combat and overcome the damage caused by the storm, especially in the education sector.

The Deputy Minister requested the education sector of Lang Son province to continue to review and grasp the situation of affected teachers and students to promptly provide material and spiritual support; review damaged equipment, facilities, and schools to synthesize and report to the Ministry for timely support plans.

The entire sector continues to clean and disinfect schools after the storm, especially those with boarding meals; organize teaching activities well, pay attention to the progress of the school year, and have plans to organize make-up classes for students who have to miss school due to the storm; proactively respond to natural disasters, not be subjective, and focus on prevention.

The Deputy Minister hopes that the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Red Cross will continue to pay attention to supporting the education sector to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3, especially at preschool and primary levels.

Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lang Son province, Duong Xuan Huyen, requested the Department of Education and Training to absorb and implement the working group's instructions; continue to accurately count the damage to have a plan to promptly support affected schools, students and teachers. At the same time, coordinate with the Department of Health to proactively advise the Provincial People's Committee on a plan to clean and disinfect schools and classrooms; soon bring teaching and learning activities back to normal, ensuring the requirements and tasks of the school year.

On this occasion, the working delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training presented 1 billion VND in support funds, along with 15,000 sets of school supplies and 300 sets of textbooks to the Education and Training sector of Lang Son province to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 3.

Previously, on the afternoon of September 14, a working delegation from the Ministry of Education and Training inspected the damage caused by storm No. 3 to the education sector in Trang Dinh district (Lang Son province) and provided VND200 million in support to overcome the damage caused by natural disasters./.

The Ministry of Transport has actively coordinated with local authorities to urgently restore road infrastructure to serve search and rescue and transport essential goods to serve people after storm No. 3.
