At least 11 people were killed and 47 injured in a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, India, on the evening of June 4 (local time).
The incident occurred when thousands of fans gathered to pay tribute to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team after they won the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time.
According to Reuters, the crowd had gathered early, many climbing trees and fences to get a view of the players. The situation became chaotic when some people without tickets tried to rush into the area inside, leading to jostling and stampeding.
Some images from the scene showed people falling on top of each other, while police tried to control the situation using batons, making the situation worse.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his grief and said: "This is a sad event, at a time that should be a time of joy. We did not expect such a large number of fans to come."
Despite the incident outside, the victory celebration continued inside the stadium. Police and rescue workers quickly arrived and took the injured to hospital.

The state government has announced financial assistance for the victims and their families, and pledged to investigate the cause of the incident.
This is not the first time India has witnessed a tragedy caused by crowds. Earlier in January this year, at least 30 people were killed in a stampede at the Maha Kumbh festival. This incident once again raised alarm bells about the management and safety of mass events in India.
Nearly 2 weeks ago, the city of Liverpool in England also witnessed a tragedy when a "crazy car" appeared, injuring more than 100 people during the parade celebrating the team's Premier League championship.
