Pepper exports slightly decreased in the first half of the year. Pepper exports in 5 months increased sharply in value.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in November 2023, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 20.2 thousand tons, equivalent to 77.7 million USD, up 4.3% in volume and 6.2% in value compared to the previous month, up 23.7% in volume and 28.4% in value compared to November 2022.

In the first 11 months of 2023, Vietnam exported approximately 245.7 thousand tons of pepper, worth 833.2 million USD, up 18% in volume and down 7.1% in value over the same period last year.

In November 2023, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper jumped to 3,839 USD/ton, the highest since the beginning of the year. In the first 11 months of 2023, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper reached 3,392 USD/ton, down 21.3% over the same period in 2022.

In terms of markets, the US remained the number 1 export market for Vietnamese pepper in the first 11 months of the year. In addition, many markets continued to increase by 2 to 3 digits compared to the same period last year.

Notably, an African country is actively importing this item from Vietnam. Specifically, pepper exports to Senegal in November reached 366 tons, worth nearly 1.2 million USD, a sharp increase of 210% in volume and 255% in value compared to November 2022. By the end of November, Senegal spent nearly 7 million USD to import 2,246 tons of pepper, an increase of 39% in volume and 14% in value compared to the same period last year.

The average export price in the first 11 months of the year reached 3,091 USD/ton, down 17.6% over the same period in 2022.

Notably, in November, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper reached 3,839 USD/ton, up 3.8% compared to November 2022. However, the average export price of pepper in the first 11 months of this year only reached 3,392 USD/ton, down 21.3% compared to the same period in 2022.

According to the Vietnam Pepper Association, since 2001, Vietnam has become the world's largest pepper exporter with a total export volume of 56,506 tons, accounting for 28% of the world's total exports.

Vietnam has exported all of its pepper harvest in 2023, part of which was taken from imports as well as inventories from the previous year. It is expected that pepper exports will reach 250,000 tons in 2023. The inventory from 2023 carried over to 2024 will be the lowest in many years.
