On the afternoon of July 15, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the score distribution for the 2025 high school graduation exam. The score distribution for English is of particular interest because this year's exam is considered by many experts to be "beyond standard" in terms of difficulty.
Accordingly, out of 351,848 candidates taking the English exam, 141 candidates scored 10 points. There were 462 candidates at the 9.5-9.75 point mark. There were 2,217 candidates at the 9-9.5 point mark.
From the 7-point mark, more than 40,000 candidates passed, accounting for 11.9%.
The average score for this subject is 5.25. The number of candidates with below average scores is 134,478, equivalent to 38.22%. There are 2 candidates with 0 points and 28 candidates with below 1 point.

The number of 10 points in English this year decreased by 504 points compared to 2024, equivalent to a 4.6-fold decrease. Of which, Hanoi has the most 10 points in the country with 56 candidates. Ho Chi Minh City ranked 2nd with 29 10 points. Bac Ninh ranked 3rd with 5 candidates achieving 10 points.
Provinces with 3-4 scores of 10 in English are Da Nang, Gia Lai, Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, An Giang and Dak Lak.

Notably, in the Top 10 provinces with the most 10 points in English, only Hanoi and Quang Ninh are the two provinces that did not merge. The remaining 8 provinces all merged from 2-3 old provinces.
These 10 provinces account for 115 English scores of 10 in the country, the remaining 24 provinces have 26 scores of 10.
Experts present at the conference announcing the 2025 high school graduation exam score distribution of the Ministry of Education and Training expressed surprise at this year's score distribution, especially in math and English because the scores were much higher than predicted and analyzed by teachers and experts on the exam.
Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc shared: "I was surprised because with what candidates and parents reflected, I thought the score range would be very low. However, in reality, the score range is not too volatile and has good differentiation, suitable for university admission."
Professor Duc also said that this year's English exam is reasonable and is a "positive innovation" because the high school output standards have changed.
"I'm very glad I'm not shocked," said Professor Duc.
