Trung Thang Bridge is located on the main road connecting the center of Yen Hoa commune with 3 remote villages including Vang Lin, Xop Coc and Tat village, home to more than 300 households with more than 1,400 people. When the bridge was washed away by floodwaters, these villages were completely isolated, traffic was paralyzed, and the daily life of people, students going to school, and transporting goods all encountered numerous difficulties.

Mr. Dau Duc Truyen - Chairman of Yen Hoa Commune People's Committee said that in the days after the storm, the commune government had to mobilize police, militia and local people to risk their lives crossing the rapids to deliver necessities, medicine and support the evacuation and emergency care for sick people in isolated villages. Schools located on the other side of the stream were also cut off, forcing students to depend on makeshift rafts to get to class, which posed many risks.

“We cannot let children continue to risk crossing the stream to go to school, so the commune has decided to build a temporary bamboo bridge near the collapsed Trung Thang bridge so that people can temporarily cross,” said Mr. Truyen.
In recent days, hundreds of people and functional forces have been mobilized to transport materials, cut bamboo, and combine with tree trunks swept away by the flood to form a bridge. The temporary bridge is more than 60m long, about 1.2m wide, connected by steel cables, hanging over Huoi Nguyen stream. On both sides of the bridge, the commune mobilized vehicles to level and build access roads to ensure safety for passersby.

According to the leaders of Yen Hoa commune, the temporary bridge is expected to be completed today, October 25, helping to relieve the isolation of remote villages. When completed, this bridge will not only help people travel more conveniently but also ensure the safety of hundreds of students going to school.
However, the local government also affirmed that this is only a temporary solution. “The temporary bamboo bridge cannot withstand the load for a long time, especially when there is still a risk of flooding in the near future. The local government hopes that the superiors will soon support funding to build a solid bridge in Trung Thang village, ensuring long-term safety for the people,” said Mr. Truyen.

It is known that the recent floods have caused severe damage to many traffic works in Western Nghe An , especially in highland communes such as Tuong Duong, Yen Hoa, Luong Minh, Con Cuong... While waiting for support sources to rebuild the hard bridge, the proactive mobilization of forces by the Yen Hoa commune government to build a temporary bamboo bridge is considered a flexible and timely solution, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance of the local government and people in difficult times, helping people in the highlands to soon stabilize their lives after the natural disaster.
