Aspiration for innovation for a strong Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City National University rewards valedictorians of the entire school graduating class of 2025.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the Opening Ceremony is not only a ritual to start the school year, but also a place where scientific knowledge is shared and inspired for the younger generation.

At the same time, this is an opportunity for previous generations to lead the way, paving the way for the next generation of students of Ho Chi Minh City National University to follow and take action.

According to Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, entering a new era of the nation, Ho Chi Minh City National University is increasingly aware of the great responsibility in nurturing talents, developing science and technology and innovation.

“The 2021-2030 strategy of Ho Chi Minh City National University has set a vision to be among the top 100 universities in Asia by 2030, and we need to make further breakthroughs to reach the top 100 in the world ,” Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai emphasized.

In her speech, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai repeatedly emphasized the word “innovation”. According to her, innovation is not a sprint but a long, continuous journey, requiring a spirit of commitment, acceptance of failure and daring to experiment.

Every individual and organization can be the subject of innovation. To have a culture of innovation, there must be aspiration, resonance and the spirit of daring to go on paths no one has ever taken before.

With the vision of becoming a top research university system in Asia, Ho Chi Minh City National University has been affirming its role as a key "link" in the innovation ecosystem, training high-quality human resources for the Southeast region and the whole country.

Ho Chi Minh City National University currently gathers more than 6,000 lecturers, staff and nearly 100,000 full-time students, training nearly 20,000 bachelors, engineers, doctors, masters and PhDs each year, contributing high-quality human resources to Ho Chi Minh City and key economic regions.

After three decades of development, this unit is now in the top 801-850 best universities in the world; 18 majors and fields are highly ranked on international rankings, of which 15 majors are in the top 500, one major is in the top 100.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City National University leads the country in international publications with about 2,700 articles in the first 9 months of 2025; holds the number one position in the number of training programs achieving international accreditation (174 programs).

At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City National University is focusing on developing key areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology and biotechnology, aiming to be in the top 100 universities in Asia by 2030, continuing its mission of nurturing talent, creating knowledge and contributing to the country's development.

During the Opening Ceremony, as a speaker, Dr. Nguyen Thanh My, Chairman of the Board of Directors of My Lan Group, founder of a technology enterprise that owns more than 700 international patents, had a talk with students about her journey to advance and conquer her own dreams.
