"We all study social sciences, but Ms. Hien has instilled in us a great love for biology," Tra shared.

Encouraged by their homeroom teacher, Dung and Tra began their journey to explore the potential of local plants. Observing the community around where they lived, the two girls noticed a common problem for children aged 1-2: prickly heat.

Although not dangerous, this condition causes considerable discomfort for children. Determined to find a natural solution, Dung and Tra focused on researching familiar herbs.

Based on scientific foundation, the two female students analyzed and tested the mixing of herbs in different proportions. Finally, they decided to combine 5 herbs, including: bitter melon, perilla, lemongrass, basil and guava leaves in equal proportions.

The effectiveness of the product was initially verified on other local people who tried the product.

Ms. Hien also created conditions for the students' products to be tested for quality. The Center for Testing Drugs, Cosmetics, and Food under the Department of Health of Bac Kan province concluded that the tested samples met quality requirements, and the tested indicators followed ASEAN standards.

This encouraging result has motivated Tra and Dung to confidently participate and win the consolation prize in the 2024 Science/Startup Idea Competition for High School Students, and to participate in the National Creative Youth Festival.

"You have worked tirelessly and done this project with all your heart," Ms. Ngo Thi Hien proudly shared about her two students.

The initial success has motivated them to pursue their dream with their teacher to explore the potential of other herbs. Revealing their future plans, the two girls said that their long-term goal is to support the local agricultural community.

Looking back at their achievements, the two female students confided that the place where they live has many ethnic minorities, so there are still many backward customs, especially the mentality of male superiority over female.

Through our small actions, we want to tell our community that we girls also have equal rights to access education, study and can develop our talents.
