20 protips and 3 dinghies shimmering on the Maspéro River

STO - On the evening of November 25, the Loi Protip (water lantern release) performance and the restoration of the Ca Hau boat took place on the Maspéro River, from the C247 bridge (swing bridge) and the 30-4 bridge (high bridge), Ward 1, Soc Trang city. This is one of the activities of the Ooc Om Boc Festival - Soc Trang Ngo Boat Racing in 2023.

At the event, there were 20 protips and 3 sampans from 11 districts, towns and cities participating in the performance. The protips representing local pagodas were elaborately and uniquely designed, moving on the river shimmering under the lights, attracting thousands of spectators to admire.

In addition, the meticulously restored sampans imbued with Khmer culture also create highlights, making the program more special.

Comrade Son Thanh Liem - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Soc Trang shared: "This year's performance of the protip and the boat racing with the addition of flower lanterns has created a unique color, contributing to making the activities of the Ooc Om Boc Festival - Soc Trang Ngo Boat Racing in 2023 more exciting and diverse. At the same time, it creates a unique cultural product, serving tourism development in the direction of regional and regional linkage, contributing to building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture, imbued with national identity, meeting the requirements of sustainable national development. This is also an opportunity to promote and introduce to tourists and people inside and outside the province the image, people and land of Soc Trang with many unique cultural heritages and traditional festivals, imbued with national identity".

After the opening ceremony, the water lanterns and canoes will be anchored on the Mespéro River to serve tourists until the night of November 26, 2023.
