25 Vietnamese universities in Asian rankings

25 universities in Vietnam are included in the 2026 Asian University Rankings, of which 3 are in the top 200.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has just announced the 2026 Asian University Rankings for 1,526 evaluated educational institutions. Vietnam has 25 universities in the list this time, an increase of 8 schools compared to the previous ranking.

Among the 25 educational institutions and organizations in the top, Hanoi National University holds the highest position at 158th, followed by Duy Tan University at 165th, and then Ho Chi Minh City National University at 175th. All three schools achieved a total score of over 50 (on a 100-point scale).

Notably, many universities appeared in the rankings for the first time, such as: Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Hutech), Foreign Trade University (Hanoi campus), Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Phenikaa, Irrigation, Commerce, Vietnam National University of Agriculture and Banking Academy.

In addition, compared with the 2025 rankings, the 2026 rankings of Vietnamese schools have quite large fluctuations.

For example, Duy Tan University dropped from 127th to 165th and lost its leading position in Vietnam. Meanwhile, VNU Hanoi and VNU Ho Chi Minh City increased their rankings significantly.

Van Lang University made the strongest progress when it increased 240 ranks, from group 491-500 to position 251, top 5 in Vietnam.

Another notable case is Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology HUTECH. In 2025, this school was not ranked, but in 2026 it was ranked 287th with 42/100 evaluation points.

In 2025, some schools were ranked quite highly but this year dropped sharply in rank, such as Ton Duc Thang University (from 199 to 231), Nguyen Tat Thanh University (from 333 to 437), Hue University (from 348 to 450) or Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education (from 421-430 to 901-950)...

The list of 25 Vietnamese representatives in the rankings and the changes in rankings compared to 2025 are as follows:

The 2026 Asia University Rankings features more than 1,500 higher education institutions from 25 education systems, including more than 550 new entrants, the largest number since the rankings were published.

This year, the University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong, China) surpassed Peking University (China) to rise to the number one position in the rankings. Singapore's Nanyang Technological University moved up in rank, sharing third place with the National University of Singapore.

Although Peking University lost its top spot, China still leads in the number of schools with 395 ranked schools, surpassing India (294 schools), Japan (147 schools) and South Korea (103 schools).

In Southeast Asia, the Philippines reached the milestone of 35 ranked institutions for the first time, up 11 from last year. Meanwhile, in South Asia, Pakistan has 82 universities represented, making it the sixth most represented higher education system in Asia.
