On the afternoon of October 24, director Ton That Can - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association - said that the opening play of the second Vietnam - Korea cultural exchange will be performed on the evening of November 15 at Tran Huu Trang Theater. Ho Chi Minh City audiences will enjoy the play "The Joy of Mr. Manh Jin Sa's Family" - a special work of the Busan Dongnyeok Theater Troupe (Korea).
The troupe has 26 artists, sound and lighting specialists, and leaders. The play will have Vietnamese subtitles so that audiences in Ho Chi Minh City can easily follow. During this period, the troupe will organize seminars to discuss the theater of the two countries, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association.
"This is an activity within the cultural exchange program between the Busan Theater Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association for the second consecutive year, an effort to extend the artistic cooperation relationship between the two port cities - Busan and Ho Chi Minh City - to enhance understanding, exchange professional experiences and bring the theater closer to students of art schools and theater-loving audiences."
Humanistic message from "Mr. Manh Jin Sa's joy"
The play "Mr. Manh Jin Sa's Joy" is considered a humorous yet profound slice of contemporary human life. With the theme of "good triumphs over evil", the play criticizes hypocrisy and lies in daily life, while affirming the value of kindness and belief in goodness.
The director and crew of Busan Dongnyeok hope that the play will be performed in Ho Chi Minh City and receive sympathy from the public. "The play cleverly combines the spirit of Korean folk humor with modern dramatic rhythms, creating a work that is close but still full of philosophy. In the laughter, the audience realizes the lesson of 'good people are eventually rewarded' - a common message for all cultures" - director Ton That Can said.
Connecting through dialogue and theater
In addition to the official performance, the program will also feature exchanges and discussions on stage cooperation between the two cities. Artists, directors, students and art researchers from both countries will share their views on staging, organizing performances, training actors, as well as how to apply technology to stage creation in the new era.
People's Artist - Director Tran Ngoc Giau, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association - said: "The Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association wishes to further strengthen the cooperative relationship with the Busan Theater Association, aiming at promotional projects, performance exchanges and artistic experience exchange between the two countries. We hope that in the near future, the Ho Chi Minh City artist group will have the opportunity to go to Busan to perform and learn more valuable experiences."

The Link of Journeys – About Art
The friendship between the two theater associations has been nurtured over many years. In 1996, People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau brought the play "Step Over the Curse" to perform in Busan, opening the premise for future cooperation trips.
In 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association welcomed a group of Busan artists to exchange, including director Lee Jeong Nam - Chairman of the Busan Theater Association. The group watched an excerpt of "Tinh la dieu bong" performed by People's Artist My Uyen, artist Quoc Thinh, and artist Nguyen Hong Dao at the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater, and expressed their emotion at the beauty of Vietnamese theatrical language.

The staging technique of the play "Mr. Manh Jin Sa's Joy" - a special work of Busan Dongnyeok Theater Troupe (Korea) promises to create opportunities for audiences and young actors in Ho Chi Minh City to approach and learn from experience.
Also on that occasion, 12 Korean artists interacted with Trinh Kim Chi Stage, rehearsing an excerpt from "Romeo and Juliet", creating a lively artistic bridge, where language is no longer a barrier but becomes a meeting place for emotions and creativity.
Through performances, dialogues and mutual learning, the relationship between the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association and the Busan Theatre Association is developing in a sustainable and practical direction. Both sides affirmed their desire to expand cooperation in areas such as exchanging works, organizing theatre festivals, training young artists, and promoting culture through performing arts.
