On October 24, at the University of Technology (VNU-HCM), Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc had a working session to discuss with the school about the training and research situation to develop human resources to serve the two nuclear power plants in Ninh Thuan .

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc said the Government 's Project "Training and fostering human resources to serve nuclear power development by 2035" aims to train nearly 4,000 workers for both plants by 2030.
Promote nuclear power development
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc said that the approved Project "Training and fostering human resources for nuclear power development until 2035" is an important basis for the Ministry of Education and Training and higher education institutions to prepare lecturers, experts and engineers to serve the restart phase of the national nuclear power program.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized that the development and implementation of a plan to train human resources for the nuclear energy industry is an urgent and important task at this time. The Ministry of Education and Training will take the lead in assigning specific tasks, requiring universities to immediately prepare training plans and report on the current status of staff and facilities.

On the other hand, universities need to coordinate closely, especially key units in the South. In addition, the Ministry of Science and Technology will support the construction of a Center for Nuclear Science and Technology Research to serve training and research activities.
The Deputy Minister directed: "We must not only train human resources for the two immediate power plant projects, but also build a sustainable nuclear training system with a clear division of labor between schools, establish a serious training and research block, serving the national economy and people's livelihood."
Investing in 7 modern laboratories
Reporting at the meeting, the University of Technology – VNU-HCM said that it is training in technical physics, which is related to nuclear power. It is expected that in 2026, the school will have an additional major in nuclear engineering.
Currently, the school has 1 PhD trained in nuclear atomic physics, 1 Associate Professor - Doctor of Nuclear Physics and 14 PhDs in Technical Physics trained in countries with developed nuclear industries.
Professor Mai Thanh Phong, Rector of the University of Technology, shared that this is an opportunity for the school to promote its traditional strengths, while contributing to a field of strategic significance to national energy security.

Professor Mai Thanh Phong, Principal of the University of Technology, shares about the school's upcoming goals and orientations.
To keep up with the training schedule, the school proposed to build 7 more modern laboratories with a total investment of 328 billion VND. It is expected that by 2035, it will be able to provide 350 high-quality nuclear power engineering personnel. Of these, at least 20 personnel will have master's and doctoral degrees.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc affirmed that welfare policy is the key factor to solve the human resource problem.
The new policy will apply special incentives – superior to other sectors, including forms such as tuition exemption/reduction and increased subsidies, to create a strong incentive to attract excellent staff, experts and students to participate in this field.
In addition to training human resources to directly operate power plants, schools must also think about the long-term vision and wide application of the nuclear industry, including key areas such as medicine (radiotherapy and diagnostic machines), agriculture and industry.
