AI application in education and training: Need to soon issue programs and documents for high school level

(NLDO) - The Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Science and Technology need to soon advise the Government to issue documents guiding the implementation of the AI ​​Strategy in education.

On October 25, the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission coordinated with Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper to organize a discussion on "Promoting the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and training - Benefits and challenges". At the discussion, many opinions from experts and teachers affirmed that the application of AI in education and training is an inevitable trend.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Van, Acting Editor-in-Chief of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, said that Resolution 71/2025 of the Politburo identifies one of the strategic breakthrough tasks as "comprehensive digital transformation, popularization and strong application of digital technology and AI in education and training". This is not only an orientational policy but also a practical imperative, requiring Vietnamese education and training to proactively adapt, innovate thinking, models and methods to catch up, progress together and be able to surpass the global development trend.

According to Mr. Nguyen Khac Van, practice shows that AI is opening up many new opportunities for Vietnamese education and training such as: increasing access to knowledge, narrowing regional gaps, promoting personalized education; arousing creativity, improving students' self-study and research capacity and innovating teachers' teaching methods...

However, besides the great benefits, the application of AI in education and training also poses many challenges, such as data security, academic ethics, teachers' digital capacity, the risk of technology dependence, and infrastructure disparities between regions.

"How AI can serve humans, not replace humans, so that technology can truly promote fairness and humanity in education - these are the issues that need to be discussed and debated in depth in the seminar" - Mr. Nguyen Khac Van emphasized.

Many experts and educators recognize the importance and urgency of promoting the application of AI in education and training; thereby proposing solutions and groups of solutions based on practice.

Ms. Do Ngoc Chi, Principal of Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School (Sai ​​Gon Ward), said that to promote AI application, the school started with fundamental steps such as building infrastructure, training teachers, and innovating teaching and learning methods.

Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School has invested in the "Digital Skill Classroom". According to Ms. Chi, this space is not only a technology classroom but also an educational environment for life values ​​in the digital age - where students learn to master technology, not be controlled by technology.

According to Ms. Chi, the team of managers and teachers are trained in exploiting digital learning materials, AI tools to support teaching; applying LMS platforms, Microsoft Teams, online classroom management software; integrating digital citizenship skills in lectures and experiential activities. Teachers are encouraged to shift from "transferring knowledge" to "leading capacity", taking technology and AI as companions, helping students think critically, be creative and behave civilly in cyberspace.

Regarding Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ms. Pham Thi Be Hien, the school's principal, said that the current difficulty is the lack of teachers who are properly trained in AI. This is a problem that needs to be solved soon. "The school chose the solution of contracting with university lecturers and engineers in AI, and at the same time organizing in-depth training for the school's IT teachers" - she informed...

From the opinions, proposals, and discussions at the seminar, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission - emphasized that the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Science and Technology need to soon advise the Government to issue documents guiding the implementation of the AI ​​Strategy in education; especially the AI ​​ethics framework in schools and AI programs and documents for high school level.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat also proposed that the Government and ministries and branches research and build a digital transformation fund in higher education - a strategic investment fund with breakthrough mechanisms and policies to attract socialized resources, encourage businesses to invest in digital infrastructure and AI solutions in education.

Building a modern, humane and creative Vietnamese education system

According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, on the part of higher education institutions, it is necessary to proactively train, pioneer in innovation, and learn from successful models, instead of passively depending on external solutions.

In addition, the business community needs to change its mindset, moving from the role of a passive "employer" to the position of a "co-creator" of human resources. News agencies and newspapers need to continue their mission of promoting and raising awareness of both the benefits and challenges of AI, creating social consensus and a proactive mindset, ready for integration for the people.

"I believe that with the spirit of Resolution 71/2025 and the support of intellectuals, teachers, scientists and technology enterprises, we will build a modern, humane, creative Vietnamese education system with national identity and contemporary stature," Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat believes.
