An academic playground for students who love the Chinese language.
This morning, October 25th, the final round of the 4th Expanded Chinese Public Speaking Competition for university students in the Southern region took place at the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City (UEF).

In his opening remarks, Dr. Nhan Cam Tri, Vice Rector of the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City and Head of the Organizing Committee of the competition, stated that the expanded Chinese public speaking competition is a meaningful annual academic activity that contributes to creating an intellectual, healthy, and creative playground for students who love the Chinese language from universities in the Southern region.
"This is not only a place for students to showcase their linguistic talents, critical thinking skills, and stage presence, but also a valuable opportunity to interact, learn, and spread their love for Chinese culture," Dr. Tri shared.
Reportedly, the competition attracted participation from students from 14 universities in the southern region, with over 100 contestants competing in the preliminary round. The 30 best contestants were selected to participate in the final stage.
In the final round, the contestants showcased a wide range of rich, topical, and humanistic rhetorical topics, revolving around issues such as artificial intelligence (AI), humanity in the digital age, Vietnam-China friendship, culture and education , and the aspirations of youth.
According to the competition's judges, the winning contestants were highly regarded not only for their accurate language skills and natural pronunciation, but also for their independent thinking, rigorous reasoning, and confident demeanor. Many entries left a deep impression due to the way the young people combined knowledge, emotions, and personal identity to spread a humanistic message.

Two students from the Gaoxin group (Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology and Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking) won third prize.

First prize went to the Nguyet Loan Phuong Gia team from the University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City. Two teams from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (Qing Cai Feng Zhao) and student Ngo Thi Ngoc Bich (Ba Ria - Vung Tau University) shared second prize.
The Gaoxin team (students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages - Information Technology and Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking) and Truong Huynh Mai Uyen (Nguyen Tat Thanh University) both won third prize.
Teams from Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, Hung Vuong University, and Thu Dau Mot University all received consolation prizes.
Foreign languages open up opportunities.
Present at the event, Ms. Wang Xin Ran, Consul at the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed: “China and Vietnam are two friendly neighboring countries with long-standing people-to-people exchanges, and this public speaking competition is a ‘useful window’ for young people of the two countries to better understand each other through language, a bridge of peace, cooperation, and understanding.”
Ms. Wang Xin Ran hopes that Vietnamese students will cherish this exchange opportunity, contributing their youthful energy and knowledge to promote closer ties between the two nations and deepen the Vietnam-China friendship in the new era.

Also at the competition, Ms. Mao Zhao Xia, Consul at the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that learning a language is the way to open the door to knowledge and future opportunities. “Chinese is not just a language, but also a key to unlocking a new world. I hope you will continue to study hard to open up a bright future for yourselves and contribute to deepening the friendship between our two countries,” she shared.
Dr. Nhan Cam Tri believes that in the era of globalization, foreign languages are a crucial asset that helps young people step out into the world.
"Any foreign language is a bridge to the future. Even with the rapid development of technology, we can't just rely on our phones for translation forever. Nowadays, foreign languages are essential, so every young person should prepare themselves with at least one foreign language, and the more the better, to confidently integrate and assert themselves," Mr. Tri remarked.
