40 thousand new securities accounts opened in December

According to statistics from the Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC), the number of newly opened securities accounts by the end of 2023 is 7.3 million accounts. Of which, the number of domestic individual accounts accounts for 7.23 million accounts, equivalent to 99.2%.

In December alone, the number of newly opened accounts increased by 40,000. The number of personal accounts increased by 39,000 compared to the previous month.

In the previous November, the stock market recorded a gloomy situation when the number of securities accounts decreased from 7.44 million to 7.25 million accounts. Of which, the number of newly opened accounts accounted for 148.6 thousand accounts. The number of closed accounts reached 341.4 thousand accounts. The large number of closed accounts caused a decline in accounts at the trading floors.

In 2023, the stock market recorded growth with the VN-Index increasing by 12% compared to the beginning of the year, reaching 1,129 points. Market capitalization is estimated at 6 million billion VND, up 9.5% over the previous year, equivalent to 62% of GDP in 2022. The number of investors opening new accounts during the year reached 355 thousand accounts, bringing the total number of accounts in the market to more than 7.23 million accounts.

On December 29, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai signed Decision 1726/QD-TTg approving the Stock Market Development Strategy to 2030. Notably, the target of stock market capitalization is expected to reach 100% of GDP by 2025 and 120% of GDP by 2030.

The number of investors' securities trading accounts in the stock market will reach 9 million accounts by 2025 and 11 million accounts by 2030. The derivatives market will grow by an average of about 20% - 30% per year in the period 2021 - 2030.
