Christmas is not only a religious holiday but also an occasion to connect friends, express creativity and bring beauty to the community, contributing to making the Christmas season more meaningful and closer.
The attraction of Christmas decoration spaces
Along the central roads in the province such as Pham Van Thuan, Nguyen Ai Quoc or around the commercial center and Dong Xoai market, everything is bright in the atmosphere of Christmas preparation. Coffee shops, gift shops, and small streets are covered in typical red and green colors, creating a vibrant and fresh festive atmosphere. Not just a shopping occasion, Christmas is becoming a "season of experience", clearly reflecting the trend of enjoyment and connection among urban youth.
The market for Christmas decoration products this year has started early since the end of November. On busy commercial streets such as Vo Thi Sau Street (Tran Bien Ward), Phu Thien Kim Night Market (Binh Phuoc Ward), many items such as artificial pine trees, colorful decorative lights, balls, Santa Claus or reindeer models are consumed strongly; the price ranges quite widely from 100,000 VND for small accessories such as light strings or ribbons, to about 500,000 or 1 million VND for artistic light sets or large pine trees from 1-2.1m. The high demand has forced many stores to continuously replenish their stock to serve the people in time.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Hoang, owner of CAM coffee shop on Le Duan street (Binh Phuoc ward) shared: “The closer it gets to Christmas, the more sparkling the atmosphere at coffee shops and central streets becomes. The decoration of the shop focuses on details such as laurel wreaths, scented candles or drinks with cinnamon scent, hot cocoa. When the space is carefully taken care of, customers entering the shop easily feel cozy, like to stay longer and often come back many times.”
Many handmade shops in Trang Dai, Tam Hiep, Chon Thanh wards… introduce environmentally friendly products such as laurel wreaths made from dried leaves, assembled wooden models, scented candles made from soy wax, and 3D pop-up cards designed on request.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bao Truc, who sells handmade woolen items on Nguyen Phuc Chu Street (Trang Dai Ward), said: This year, customers prefer personalized gifts that are less wasteful and can be used for a long time, such as pine trees woven from wool or fine beads woven into the shape of pine trees or Santa Claus so that customers can buy them and make them themselves.
“Buyers not only care about beauty but also want the gift to carry a message and be delicate,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Bao Truc added.
The fact that young people actively combine entertainment and social activities shows that Christmas is no longer a mere festival but has been “localized” to suit local culture. These activities not only create positive spillovers but also contribute to building responsible consumption habits, which local trade and service sectors are striving towards.
Christmas season is more beautiful, more meaningful
The Christmas atmosphere in recent years is not only limited to the religious sphere but has become a community culture that many people look forward to. Images of agencies, businesses, residential areas, parishioners in particular and people in general decorating and beautifying the space show the widespread influence of the holiday season. In particular, today's youth do not just wait for Christmas to have fun but proactively create positive activities, creating decorative items with their own hands.
Ms. Tran Khanh Vy (residing in Tam Hiep ward), a young Catholic, shared: “Christmas is not just an occasion to take photos or go shopping. In the parish, we often volunteer and make reusable decorations for the neighborhood or community area. Everyone wants to make the holiday season more beautiful and meaningful, not just for enjoyment.”
According to Ms. Vy, many young people in the parish this year actively participated in building a nativity scene and decorating the common space with reusable, compact and warm materials.
Young people in general welcome Christmas in a very positive way. Mr. Bui Tan Phat (residing in Tran Bien ward) said: “I am not Catholic, but every year my friends and I clean and redecorate our home and office to create a Christmas atmosphere. Every holiday season, I often go with my friends to see the light spaces, take photos on the streets and visit some large parishes. Christmas is fun because everyone is open and friendly. I feel the warmth and spirit of solidarity that the holiday brings.”
According to Dr. Vo Nu Hanh Trang ( Dong Nai University, Tam Hiep Ward), the fact that young people are increasingly participating in Christmas activities reflects the dynamic urban life and the trend of building a new cultural identity.
“Christmas becomes an opportunity for young people to demonstrate their creativity, spirit of connection, and sense of contribution to the community” - Dr. Vo Nu Hanh Trang commented.
Dr. Vo Nu Hanh Trang believes that the most important thing is to spread the spirit of beauty, joy and meaning in the community. When young people know how to take advantage of the Christmas season to connect with society, create spaces, and contribute to spreading kindness through small actions, the holiday season will have a deeper value.
Young people need to enjoy Christmas in a civilized way, avoiding short-term shopping trends. Experts recommend developing “consumer aesthetics” and choosing sustainable products. When businesses and young people act responsibly, festive culture will become a long-term value, not just a seasonal joy.
The positive and conscious reception of young people shows that Christmas is not only a religious festival but has become a part of modern community life, where people join hands to beautify the space and foster a spirit of solidarity.
