The conference aims to mark 50 years of formation and development of the Faculty of Literature and Linguistics, and is also an opportunity to look back at the contributions of literary and artistic researchers in Ho Chi Minh City in recent times.
Within the framework of research in Ho Chi Minh City from 1975 to present, the Conference focuses on research, criticism, collection and translation works of different periods, including the following topics: Research on classical literature, modern literature and modern literature, modern literary criticism, collection and research on folk literature, collection and research on Han Nom heritage, translation and introduction of literary research theories, translation and research on foreign literature, painting, sculpture, music , theater and cinema from 1975 to present.

In his opening speech, Dr. Phan Thanh Dinh, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, stated: “The literature and arts of Ho Chi Minh City from 1975 to the present reflect the strong vitality, dynamic spirit and bravery of a pioneering city, reflecting the mindset of those working in social sciences and humanities. Today's conference is not only an academic event, but also a meeting of like-minded people, a space for knowledge to connect and cooperate, a forum to think about the role of literature, art and language in an era of strong global changes and digital transformation.”

Looking at the national context, it can be seen that the literature and art of Ho Chi Minh City have a certain harmony. This poses a double requirement in the study of literature and art: both ensuring resonance with the national literature and art, and contributing its own colors to the overall picture.

One of the major themes of Vietnamese literature is human destiny, which is also a research topic of interest to many scientists. At the conference, Professor Huynh Nhu Phuong introduced traditional and modern humanism in literature through a number of representative authors. From there, he sketched the image of Vietnamese people from the perspective of the times.

In addition to the presentations on the achievements of literary and artistic research in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Vu Thi Thanh Tram brought a report on the collection of Han Nom documents by the Han Nom Research Department through the introduction of the 1820 edition of Tu Thu Tiet Yeu - Dai Hoc by Bui Huy Bich.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Cong Ly, the conference is just the first step to recognize and summarize the achievements of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and art. In the future, it is necessary to supplement and update the achievements of many generations of researchers and theorists, thereby opening up many research directions for social scientists and humanities in the research of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and art.
