The 2023 Italian Film Festival, organized by the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam, will take place from November 27 to December 2 at the National Cinema Center ( Hanoi ). The event is organized in coordination with the Asian Film Festival in Rome, aiming to bring the Vietnamese public a diverse view of contemporary Italian cinema.
The 2023 Italian Film Festival will have many outstanding films released to Vietnamese audiences.
Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco Della Seta said that 2023 is extremely meaningful as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and Vietnam (1973 - 2023) and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Italy and Vietnam. Therefore, promoting cultural diplomacy is an important measure to establish, maintain and develop foreign relations.
As one of the oldest cinemas in the world , however, after World War II, Italy faced difficulties in developing finance and other fields, causing the film industry to fall into a state of "crisis". During this period, a number of young filmmakers introduced a new filmmaking model called Neo-Realism or Moral and Aesthetic Cinema. Neo-Realism films focused on the real lives of people, in which the main themes included poverty, hunger, unemployment and the struggle to make a living.
Films screened at the 2023 Italian Film Festival include: Hummingbird (director Francesca Archibugi); Diabolik (director Antonio Manetti) and Diabolik Ginko Attacks (director Marco Manetti); September (director Giulia Louise Steigerwalt); Leonora (director Paolo Taviani); The Return of Casanova (director Gabriele Salvatores).
Through six outstanding films in the genres of drama and comedy, many of which have won awards at prestigious festivals, audiences will experience stories revolving around urban life, depicting contemporary Italian society facing new challenges while still trying to connect and maintain traditional heritage.
"I hope that Vietnamese people will love the films being shown, have fun times with family and friends, while relaxing and enjoying good films. This is also the wish we want to convey to Vietnamese audiences through the 2023 Italian Film Week," said Mr. Marco Della Seta.
Films at the 2023 Italian Film Festival will be screened at 7:30 p.m. from November 27 to December 2 at the National Cinema Center (Hanoi). Movie tickets will be distributed free of charge to audiences who register in advance via the 2023 Italian Film Festival fanpage, and can be picked up at Casa Italia, 18 Le Phung Hieu from November 21 until tickets are sold out.
