On the afternoon of May 30, the Vietnamese team had its first training session at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, preparing for the important away match against Malaysia in the second match of Group F - Final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.
At the first training session, head coach Kim Sang Sik could not have his full squad, as players from Becamex Binh Duong and Cong An Ha Noi clubs were busy playing the make-up match of round 23 of V.League 2024/25 on May 30. This group of players will gather on May 31.

In addition, the team also suffered a loss in strength when two defenders, Nguyen Thanh Binh and Bui Hoang Viet Anh, could not participate due to injury. To strengthen the defense, coach Kim Sang Sik decided to call up Dang Van Toi from Hai Phong Club, and at the same time transfer defender Pham Ly Duc from the Vietnam U22 team to the national team.

Striker Nguyen Cong Phuong shared his thoughts after 2 years of absence from the Vietnam national team. He expressed his pride and made every effort to contribute to the team: “I am always aware of my responsibility and will try my best whenever I have the opportunity. I clearly feel the great spirit and desire to contribute of the whole team.”
Regarding the upcoming match with Malaysia, Cong Phuong commented: “This match is very important. The team needs to prepare carefully and make maximum efforts to achieve the best results. No matter who plays, the task of all players is to give their all. We clearly understand that a positive result away from home will open up great opportunities for the team in this qualifying round.”
The Vietnam team will continue to train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. It is expected that the team will have an internal practice match with the U22 Vietnam team to review and evaluate the team's strength and playing style before moving to Malaysia on June 6.
