80 soldiers are about to go to Myanmar to provide relief after the earthquake disaster

On March 29, the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army held a conference on sending forces ready to participate in earthquake relief in Myanmar.

At the conference, the leader of the Department of Rescue and Relief said that the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that occurred on March 28 in central Myanmar caused at least 10 aftershocks, ranging in magnitude from 2.8 to 7.5 on the Richter scale.

According to preliminary statistics, thousands of people have died and this number is predicted to be up to 10,000 people or even more. Currently, 4 countries (China, India, Russia and Malaysia) have sent forces to support Myanmar.

Faced with this urgent situation, the Minister of National Defense has directed the General Staff to organize forces that, after receiving approval from the Party Central Committee Secretariat, will be ready to go to Myanmar to assist in overcoming the consequences.

It is expected that the relief force will include 80 officers and soldiers, including those from the following departments: Department of Rescue and Relief (3 officers); Department of Foreign Affairs (2 officers); Department of Vietnam Peacekeeping (2 officers); Department of Military Security Protection (1 officer); People's Army Newspaper (1 reporter); Military Radio and Television Center (2 reporters); Engineering Corps (30 soldiers); Military Medicine (30 officers and soldiers); Border Guard (9 soldiers).

The delegation to support Myanmar in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake is led by Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Department of Search and Rescue. The equipment is carefully calculated to be suitable, compact and effective, drawing on experience from the rescue mission in Türkiye. The delegation is expected to depart on the afternoon of March 30.

Meanwhile, the General Department of Logistics and Engineering coordinated with the Military Department to organize forces and vehicles ready to mobilize to carry out the mission. The Foreign Affairs Department deployed support work on exit and entry procedures; coordinated with the Air Defense - Air Force Service and civil airlines to organize the transport of task forces, equipment and relief goods to the epicenter in Myanmar.

Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, stated that sending troops to participate in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Myanmar demonstrates the high responsibility of the Party, State and people of Vietnam towards the international community; affirming the prestige, sense of responsibility and capacity of the Vietnam People's Army in international relations and cooperation.

Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang requested relevant units to coordinate closely and complete procedures as quickly as possible so that the task force can depart on March 30.
