Recently, runner-up Le Thao Nhi spoke out after the controversy related to her statement praising "Barbie" - a movie containing the "cow tongue line" image that has been banned from showing in Vietnam.
Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 first runner-up Le Thao Nhi apologized.
The first runner-up of Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 wrote: "Nhi would like to sincerely apologize to everyone for upsetting everyone with her post about the movie "Barbie". As a Vietnamese woman, proud of Vietnam, Nhi would like to affirm that she does not support the "cow tongue line".
Nhi regrets not expressing this point of view clearly when commenting on the film and causing people to misunderstand."
In the post, Thao Nhi also hopes that the audience can forgive her shortcomings. "This will be a great lesson for Nhi to continuously learn and be more responsible for her words," the beauty shared.
Previously, Thao Nhi posted a public article praising "Barbie" as a good movie and said she was very sad that this movie was not shown in Vietnam.
"The film carries a strong message of empowerment and self -discovery . It contains many moments that I think boys and girls can see themselves in and be inspired by.
The film does not shy away from confronting issues, cleverly interspersing lessons about life, values, courage, resilience and pursuing passion.
The film also shows how strong we women are in this world , how much we sacrifice, how much we fight to receive respect and acceptance," she praised the film.
The post caused the runner-up to receive a lot of criticism. Many viewers disagreed with Thao Nhi praising and supporting the film containing the image of the "cow tongue line". Immediately after that, the beauty deleted this post.
The movie "Barbie" was banned in Vietnam because it contained the "cow tongue line" image.
On July 3, Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Department of Cinema confirmed that the American movie "Barbie" was not licensed for release in Vietnam because it contained images of the illegal "cow tongue line".
Warner Bros. later explained: "The map in Barbie Land is a child-like crayon drawing. The scribbles depict Barbie's fictional journey from Barbie Land to the 'real world'. It is not intended to make any kind of statement."
However, the Vietnam Cinema Department still maintains its stance of banning the film.
The movie "Barbie" has an investment budget of about 100 million USD, directed by Greta Gerwig, script by Noah Baumbach.
Actress Margot Robbie plays the Barbie doll, living in the world of Barbieland. One day, she is removed from this world, seeking happiness in the human world, with the companionship of Ken (Ryan Gosling).
