Mr. Ba Phat (Le Nam, left) in the movie.
In a small alley in the heart of the city, Mr. Ba Phat's (Le Nam) boarding house is a stopover for many workers and students. Mr. Ba Phat lives alone, has no children and manages the boarding house himself. With a series of strict regulations on activities and living in the boarding house, Mr. Ba Phat is famous for being difficult.
However, Mr. Ba Phat's boarding house attracts many young people and migrant workers. Ut Lanh from the West came to the city to find work, became a janitor and helped Mr. Ba Phat manage the boarding house. There is also Loan, an English teacher who has been attached to the boarding house for a long time because of childhood memories; besides that, there is the quiet technology engineer Tam, or the most beautiful Lam in the boarding house... And life in the boarding house has many changes when Cuong arrives.
Cuong was a student, the son of a rich family, but because he loved to play, his parents forced him to move out and live in a rented house to retrain his personality and lifestyle. Here, Cuong repeatedly confronted Mr. Ba Phat and found ways to circumvent the rules, dragging many people in the rented house into the mix, creating many funny situations. Mr. Ba Phat also had a headache with Cuong's actions, especially when Ut Lanh was gradually bribed by Cuong and continued to cover for him.
Each episode is only about 20 minutes long, depicting situations that occur in the relationships between people in the boarding house. The film brings real slices of life, humanity, and seemingly fragile but strong relationships. In the boarding house, they are strangers from all over the world living under the same roof. At first, there were conflicts and arguments about lifestyle and activities. But after collisions and conflicts, each person resolved the problems in their hearts, learned to sympathize and listen to each other. Like the conflict between Loan and Mr. Ba Phat for many years. They always argued because Loan wanted to keep the memories of the old house, while Mr. Ba Phat wanted to forget the painful past. In Loan's memory, this place used to have warm memories of love, but for Mr. Ba Phat, it was the pain related to his family that made him choose to live alone.
Each knot in the character's heart is gradually untied and the landlord and the guests are gradually healed by the love of the people sharing the same room, finding their own values in life. Mr. Ba Phat, from a grumpy, cold person, gradually opens his heart and gets caught up in the colorful stories of the guests. He becomes a strict but warm father and uncle, always protecting the guests like family. From a person who has no one by his side, Mr. Ba Phat has a real family. Cuong also gradually matures and learns to appreciate the results of his work, to live with discipline and responsibility. Each person in the room gradually changes, becomes closer and more loving, helping each other more.
Through stories related to life, "Shared Room, Shared Life" brings meaningful messages about friendship, neighborhood love, and humanity.
